I would totals agree if it doesn't get personal or nasty however some are so incensed someone came and posted in their forum they feel they have to go too far.

The people who tease and poke a little in reply are fun to read as it shows a quick whit and an intelligent mind behind the response.

That's where you use your own blocking powers. There's no need to read or respond to anything.

Reading some of the threads over the last week one persons troll is another's truth-sayer.

The pissy pussy thread filled quickly. People enjoyed it from what I could see. I think some crossed the line, and maybe I did with my musing about being damaged causing incontinence.

Is it feeding a troll or feeding that urge to poke at a spitting viper to see if it will bite you?

O o O oo

That depends on peoples definition of a troll.

Lots of people post trivial threads/posts....it depends on a few reasons of wether they are called trolls or not.....gender and wether they are regulars normally comes into it.

As always, if someones threads annoy you so much that you find yourself typing angry posts at them, then just don't open their threads or comment on their posts.

I no longer participate in threads started by a certain person. I can't even be bothered to open them anymore.

Hence I do not know what have been said in those threads.

However, I would like to believe anyone who hit the report button did so because certain posts were too far below the belt to be taken lightly, and that the mods agreed with them, resulting in time out for some.

Which are the supposed troll posts??!

Surely any post is good. It either gets ignored or lots of people post. Banter is good. If you don't like someone or what they have to say just don't open their threads.

I like the '?' threads. I find them much more thought provoking than some other threads....

I have read this thread with interest, "trolls" are not a species all on their own, lots of people can be/have been trolls at some point, if you want to be pedantic those "popcorn" comments could be classed as trolling also......like Rugby said sometimes its best to step away from the keyboard.

The ones who shout the word are often looking in the mirror at the time. Its amusing at times but lets face it many are just courting popularity when they start picking on some newbies thread. As others have said its the smarter ones who can add humour without trying to degrade someone who stand out from the wannabee mudslingers on both sides.

I don't think there are any hardened trolls on the forums these days, but there are those who are inclined to trollish comments at times, some more frequently than others. Oddly, some of those people don't even realise they are regarded as trolls...

I agree that everyone who posts frequently makes troll like comments occasionally, after all your mood varies from day to day and if you post when your annoyed or irritated then that will show. The vast majority of my posts are daft, satirical, plain weird or humourously self-deprecating, or ludicrously self-aggrandising - a few express my opinion on more serious matters or offer advice and I have the very occasional rant, typically dipped in irony and satire before posting. Yet no doubt there are those who regard me as 'trollish' at times - probably as they regard me as being 'in a clique' or one of the 'forum untouchables' as well. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't on that score so I've given up caring and just post what I like and express my opinions as I see fit. I never purposely set out to offend people.

There are certain 'buttons' we all have that may set us off on a rant and that is what trolls look for, they press those buttons and then constantly poke at your responses to keep you riled up. There are posters on here who threads I avoid and who's comments I ignore (interestingly that list is a 50/50 split on female/male). There are others who's _iews I often disagree with but still find their input interesting and informative, typically those who aren't out to prove anything or point score off others.

I strongly dislike those who pull others comments or opinions apart because they don't like them and attempt to show their moral highground or ivory tower is better, likewise those who constantly refer to past posts (the green arrow analysts) and quote inconsistancies or varying opinions of posters - do they seriously spend time examining and cross referencing old posts just to point score?!? They are THAT interested in a persons posts?! I would say that is 'trollish' behaviour.

There are times when 'feeding frenzies' occur on threads, often, in my opinion, the OP expects such a responce and so gets little sympathy from me. You act a dick and people will treat you as a dick. Some such posters have learnt from the experience, took it on the chin, and are now far better for it in my opinion. There are other times when this occurs on more sensible threads and then I find it irritating, especially when those less able to express their _iews are pulled apart.

Trolling is a hard one to define, add peoples moods and the overal tone of the forums, add a dash of favoritism here and there, the moon phase, jealousy and an (often incorrect) assumption admin are doing nothing about it and it can all explode.

Whether you like it or not trolling is the life blood of any forum. I've seen many a forum die on it's arse once you 'clean it up' and ban the trolls.

Don't get me wrong you need all the fluffy/helpful/uplifting/positive threads just as much.

I am the first to put my hands up and say that maybe ever so slightly my forum persona is a form of passive trolling I think we all do it to an extent. So shit! It's entertaining! The main thing to understand is the weaker the mind the easier the trolling. Just don't bite if you're offended or don't read a thread if it's going in a direction you don't like.

Vive la troll!

P.S. Has everyone seen my bum? I mean just look at those buns of steal!!! Mmmmmmmmmmm

"

P.S. Has everyone seen my bum? I mean just look at those buns of steal!!! Mmmmmmmmmmm

Those buns of steel are very hot indeed

They are not buns of "steel" but "steal" - he harvests skin from unwilling donors in order to keep them looking like that.

p.s. is that trolling or hi-jacking? "

My post was hijacking the spelling of steal was trolling

"Nah, leave them be. Forums are far more fun when there are controversial posts, better than those daft Fuck, avoid etc' threads in my _iew.

Steve"

This.. there are plenty of threads on here that are complete bollox and a waste of time.Controversial is so much more fun and always gets things going a bit..

Depends how thick skinned you are and how much you let it get to you.

The answers simple if you don't like someone or something ignore it

There are no trolls, only gay emo kids who can't take a differing opinion to their own.

"Whether you like it or not trolling is the life blood of any forum.

Mmmmmmmmmmm "

I agree with Funky, it is boring when everything is all lovely dovey and all agreeing etc.

I wouldnt deliberately disagree with a thread just for the fun of it, I do genuinely believe what I post. I dont believe I am rude, though I have little tolerance with statements and posts which I find silly and immature and I will say so. Maybe I dont always communicate those responses as I should do

"So what is a troll on fab then "

It's an internet term for someone who tries to provoke responces by making inflammatory or provocative messages just to upset and provoke others.

There aren't actually any serious trolls on Fab in my experience, just a few who revert to this behaviour at times.
