The one near Manchester airport isn't bad for the price, compared to all the other airport hotels. Furniture and carpets dated but bedding clean and bathroom spotless.

Bangkok airport used to be an incredible shithole. Smoking rooms that leaked everywhere, and it took a million years to get from one flight to another.

The latter is still true.

It does amuse me that because of the film people don't seem to realise its a grim port town with nothing of note except an incredible mosque

Reminds me of the time I went to a kink event at a club in small heath Birmingham, last minute decision and all my friends were stating at an ibis that was full. Booked a budget hotel next door (possibly a formula 1) and was genuinely scared for my safety. Fuckin hell there were some problem cases staying there!

City , Liverpool.

What with the razor wire between the houses and the stupid road by the docks and Beatles paraphernalia everywhere.

Hotel , Premier Suisse in Soissons .

God , a ditch in the rain on Dartmoor would be preferable..

Rooms that stank of BO and sticky orange beds .

Unfortunately I read the reviews afterwards.

The area around Napoli Centrale station in Naples. Dirty, people peeing in the street, dr*g deals. The hotel manager of the hell hole I stayed in there kept bringing me gifts (food and drink) that I had to throw away, I felt like I was being groomed… The rest of Naples is awesome though - Vomero, the Spanish Quarter…

The Grand Hotel, Scarborough. Lasted an hour and before we found another hotel to stay in. No food available after 8pm, room looked like it was last decorated in 70s and could just about see out of the windows because they were that filthy.

The Calcaria, Tadcaster. The fixtures, fitting and furniture looked like they’d been around since Queen Victoria. I had the joy of sharing the bathroom with at least one silverfish daily and the wash basin in the main room (yep) has been leaking for so long the carpet and floorboards underneath it had rotted and stated to sag.

Some of the back streets of Blackpool remind me of the opening scene in ‘Shaun of the Dead’.

Stayed at the Norbreck Hotel that was an experience certainly one I won’t be repeating.

And I love Blackpool, so it’s not a criticism of the place as a whole.

East Ham in East London. Decades of "cultural enrichment" has left it a Third World shithole.

The High Street is full of street drinkers; street pissers; open drug dealing; Eastern European Roma gypsy beggars, pickpockets and shoplifters; hordes of Romanian, Bulgarian and Albanian men just hanging around all day long drinking, shouting, and acting like cunts.

There 14 betting shops in High Street North alone, most of which are used to provide cover for drug dealers. Police are non-existant, law enforcement is carried out by ineffectual council street wardens, who walk around in groups of four and try not to upset anyone.

It is the worst shithole in London, and I defy anyone to name some place worse.

Country- Nigeria, for work. The armed driver from the airport, hotel and workplace,is all you need to know.

City- I think most major cities are shitholes. If I had to pick one London, even the posh areas need a scrub.

Hotel- A 4 star hotel in Suffolk, I cannot remember the name, Grey something. I was trying to impress a lady friend. Hot Water leaks from the ceiling. The water leaking from the ceiling was more powerful and probably cleaner than the shower. Glasses that had lipstick on them. The living room smelt of vomit. Evidence of cocoa still on a chester drawer. That was a privilege for £215 per night.

I grew up in Bangkok as a child. Learnt more about the world roaming the streets as a kid in the 80’s than any other time of my life. Fabulous place but I saw some eye opening depravity.

For pure shitholes then most of Central Africa is the winner. If I never go back again it will be too soon.

To actually respond to this thread and having worked and travelled alot of the UK I'm afraid I concur that Blackpool is the worst place though.

To simplify why, it's the only place I've had my car keyed and asked for heroin in daylight...

"When I was married we booked a nice weekend away. We fucked up with the hotels and ended up in a half way hostel

Reminds me of the time I went to a kink event at a club in small heath Birmingham, last minute decision and all my friends were stating at an ibis that was full. Booked a budget hotel next door (possibly a formula 1) and was genuinely scared for my safety. Fuckin hell there were some problem cases staying there!"

Similar I took my youngest about 15yrs ago to a Gary Numan 50th Birthday Concert in the centre of Manchester we found a pub online. Never like staying in pubs and only accom in area. Christ what a dive, words difficult to describe it. Only place open to eat was a dodgy little subway. University I think nearby and several big garages selling ferraris etc...

"A lot of what you have described sounds like my part of North London I live in Edmonton and some refer to it as Stabmonton due to the knife crime we have. However for me I have lived here 47 years and counting with no immediate plans to leave and whilst it is not the Edmonton I grew up in it is my Edmonton and home and never would I refer to it as a shithole "

So what you're saying is that where you live IS a shithole, but you are perfectly happy with it being a shithole, and that you would never, never, NEVER, refer to it as a shithole, even though it is a shithole.

Well, Cos, I'm happy for you. It's precisely this kind of civic pride that it sorely lacking in Britain today.

PS: I've been to Edmonton, and it most definitely is a shithole.

"I see your East HamAnd raise you

Peterhead in Aberdeenshire.

"

I just looked at the Keep Scotland Beautiful website, and I see that Peterhead has a beach. A beach!

Do you know what would happen if East Ham had a beach? The locals would use it as an outdoor toilet. And I'm talking number twos. It would be covered in household rubbish, old mattresses and piles and piles of Indian food, ostensibly left out for the seagulls but really just chucked there to save on black bin bags. Oh, and they'd be no sand left, because the Roma gypsies would have nicked it all.

Peterhead? Phuh. Compared with East Ham, it's the Scottish St Tropez.

Croydon. I hate to say it as I used to live a couple of yards from the town centre. It was deliberately run down to facilitate the building of a new Westfield and now that's fallen through its full of either empty shops or pound shops and most afternoons and evening inhabited by gangs of feral youths and Deliveroo riders. I'm so glad we moved away.
