Well, the numbers corresponded to numbers on the dartboard. The word 'in' represented that the prize mentioned was what you would win if one of your darts was 'in' the slice of board corresponding to that number. Then the long drawn out delivery was to add drama and excitement for TV viewers. Crazy, huh, when you think about it...

My mates dad was on it, but the person they had answering the questions was thicker than a rhinos foreskin and they only won theor bus fare home

Also by some freaky coincidence; I was round my mates house after the pub a few years ago and we were flipping through the channels and saw Bullseye on. He said " I'll put this on, Dad was on it", and it was the episode with his dad showing
