Would you still want to take your kids to see a film if you knew the writer's family were still in denial that a family member was a prolific paedophile?

Yes.

For a few reasons :

- the film, whilst based on the writers works, has its own merits as a production

- the film is a 12A so we are not talking juniors here, we are talking high school age

- by that age, children should understand to not believe everything they are told or to rely on one source of information to make their decisions

and after all, it's not likely that the writer or any member of his family is gonna pop by for a crafty fondle whilst you are tucking into your nachos

I agree the paedo shouldn't be allowed to have his actions covered up, but Tolkien, the writer of the hobbit and lotr wasn't himself a paedo.

It's a personal decision to boycott the film, but I would see it.

Well I wasn't aware of that but it wouldn't stop me going to see the film or reread the book, just like many people still listen too and buy music by people like Michael Jackson, who at the very least was very dubious

You know, it worries me it really does.

It seems that the latest fashion is to posthumously 'convict by vox-populi' - no actual criminal charges can be brought posthumously and the accused can never have their day in court to deny the claims.

Yet as the current trend is showing, the finger is pointed, the words are said and immediately it must be true, for the accused cannot answer the allegations. It doesn't matter if the accusers have an axe to gind, a grudge to bear or a wallet to fill - Be you a saint or the common man, you are simply 'guilty in absentia'.

Its wrong. Its McCarthy-esq 'Witch-Hunt' type wrong and its not going to stop because the genie is out of the bottle.

even murderes etc etc can be creative people..it would be different if in their 'art' they were promoting their crimes.I believe people can still buy Garry glitter music.There could be hidden messages in the art..but thet could be entirely subjective to who is looking at the work.

I absolutely hate it when people come up with statements, their when in ti a public arena and then state what they ar e saying it's the undeniable truth without any facts or substantiation

If you have any evidence to the contrary then bring it forward, or take it to the relevant authorities ...

This forum is not a lynch mob.

There should be due process, and I'm sure that if new evidence were ti be presented then the authorities would investigate it

JRR Tolkein did not make the films. He's dead. How does boycotting a Peter Jackson film bring awareness to paedophillia in the Catholic Church except by making such a distant connection as to trivialise something so shameful and painful to many?

OP - you have shouted your point. I can see that you are angry. Please for the sake of such a serious issue use that energy to fight the real cause and not a film that most people won't even realise is based on a book.

I don't think he knows one Tolkien from another.....the rants of the Paedo Outers often end up in confusion, which is a major reason for them being sued for their rants.
