Having lived and worked in garrison towns all my adult life, I fear that if the army are being used for policing roles we are fucked.

No they shouldn't because the people that The border force deal with are civilians. The army very rarely gets involved with civilians unless absolutely necessary.

The most common army civilian interactions in my experience are d*unk squaddies smashing up the town, attacking the local civilians, then expecting that saying 'I fought in Afghan for you' is accepted as an excuse.

Doubt will make any difference. Our border staff don't stop anyone getting in, only stop them or us leaving. Army will be powerless just like the police.
