Have yoy ever had dreams of a love one who's passed away? If so what happened in the dream ? Did it happen more than once?

My Grandmother passed away in my teenage years. We were really close. Many years later when my husband and I were trying for kids I started praying to her to help me gave kids. I don't know why i prayed as I'm not a big believer in the afterlife but about 6 months later I started to have dreams of my grandmother. I couldn't always remember what happened during them. The dreams became regular and about 2 months after they started happening I found out I was pregnant. After this the dreams stopped.

I now only occasionally have dream of her and mostly just when I need her. Brings me comfort though.

I have dreams that my mother is still with us .. the funniest part to me is the fact she left me every thing as an only child , but she comes back still living in her own home etc with no income obviously .

Wakes me up in a bit of a flap thinking I should give it all back ..

Bless her, I miss her , been gone 16 years the dream is fairly frequent too .

I dream about 3 relatives and a friend that died. One of my relatives I dream about seems to have some sort of pattern 3 or 4 times a week for a month, then nothing for a month. The pattern has been happening since he died in 2020. The others seem to show up when they feel like it all completely random dreams and different every time.

Weirdly, I haven't dreamt about my deceased family, not even my Grandparents who I adored and spent so much of my time with.

I have dreams with colleagues in, teammates from basketball, my husband, but actually I don't have vivid dreams that often.

Mr KC reports never having had a dream that he remembers at all, ever.

Is it a reoccurring dream ? I have a dream at least twice a week and always basically the same thing. It's nothing to do with a loved one. Its more a memory from when I was younger. Not a good one either. I'm not sure if it actually happened but freaks me out all the same.

Yes pretty much on a similar vein. I think perhaps when I am particularly upset or stressed as it was only the two of us , she was very clingy .

Not so much of a dream more of a prescribed drug hallucination

Several years back I had a bout of severe headaches due to a defective valve in my brain

I was prescribed tramadol

I over cooked them 1 evening and sat in my garden talking to the bush that was my grandad who had died 10 years before

The weirder thing was the following evening same situation but the bush was my best mate who died the 9 years previous

That was the last time I took tramadol and the last time I had any issues with my brain

I had several dreams after a particularly traumatic bereavement. In one dream I was trying to find him in this huge building, and eventually saw him frantically banging against a window and sobbing but we couldn't get to each other. In another dream about the same person it was like we were in a parallel universe where the accident had been a near-miss and he was shaken up but ok.

I've also had several dreams that predicted deaths - including the person I had those other dreams about.

I've never dreamed about a loved one who has died. I'm lucky in that I've been able to spend time with them while I knew they were dying and we were able to conclude our business with each other (not as cold hearted as it sounds). I have dreamed about someone I didn't know too well but was involved in a complicated situation I was part of, I dreamed they sat on my bed and told me everything was alright. I think that was my subconscious.

I'm intrigued! I find dreams fascinating, especially when they appear to be premonitions. Apparently we don't all dream in the same way, not everyone sees the facial features of the people in their dreams.

Your in charge in your dreams and can basically do anything you ever wanted to do

So if you like you could stop him saying anything and tell him exactly how you feel and make him "bugger off"

Might help you when you next see him in your dreams

Both my parents died in 2020 as well. I was there when my mum died and remember seeing her on the floor and all i wanted to do was lay next to her and her and give me one last hug...a couple of days after i had a dream my mum was hugging me tightly..i could feel her hair on my cheek, i could smell her. We spoke and i was begging her not to leave me...i was heart broken but i got my last hug.

I don't usually remember my dreams but I was very close to my mother and I'll often have a dreams of her on occasions such as close to her birthday Christmas .

The one's at Christmas are usually sad one's I cooked her a Christmas dinner on Christmas day she was moved to a hospice on boxing day and passed away 10 days later.

I really used to enjoy Christmas but ever since it's one of the times of year I dread.

Sorry if I have come across as a doom and gloom merchant I do have happy dreams as well but I have Christmas in my head as its not far off

My wife died in 2005. A few years later I dreamt she walked back into the house as if nothing had happened. She told she faked her own death and was back now. She said it like it was of no importance. I thought of my grief and that of my 9 kids grief. I got so angry i chucked her out. I then woke up, very weird dream

I’ve had a few about my husband, searching for him in a dream and saying phew I’ve found you! You gave me a fright there (when he was in hospital)

Also had one where it was a week after he had died and we were talking, but in the dream I had the realisation that it couldn’t be real, and how could he be breathing when he’d died the week before?

I've had loads of dreams about people I have lost... but only two vivid ones that felt so lifelike.

I hope those kind of dreams mean something... and they could be our loved ones coming back to us in a way. I don't know. But seeing them again, hearing their voice is always so bittersweet.

I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in 2018. I was travelling to see him but missed him by a half a day. That night i slept in his room, next to the bed he passed away in. I found his prayer book under his pillow, the small Bertie basset i had sent him weeks previously for Father’s Day. That night I was sure I’d see him, an apparition or something. It never happened nor has ever.

When we hope, we just think it might.

Not wishing to appear unsensitive, when when did the term 'die' become unacceptable? Why have people started using the term 'passed away' and it seems people have become too lazy to say 'passed away' and now only use 'passed'?

I don’t think die has ever become unacceptable it’s just passed away is a softer term to use. Some folk are sensitive and/or spiritual and prefer to use terms like ‘passed on’. Absolutely nothing wrong with it from what I can see

Check my first post, I said died but that's because I work in palliative/ end of life care. We are advised to say died/ dying to avoid jargon and confusion.

Some people are a matter of fact and are happy to say dying/dead and others can't bring themselves to use those words. Others don't put that much thought into it as it's what everyone says. Surely people can use whatever terminology they prefer though.

because it's softer language and when you're talking about the most important people in your life dying sometimes it's too painful to use such cold language.

Too 'lazy' to say passed away? Jesus Christ...Get a grip.

Passed away is certainly not new ive heard that term for years. Passed on is relatively new though. Does it really matter what term is used, everyone knows what it means? I don't think it's a matter of laziness it's a matter of what a person is comfortable with. I use the term die or died.

Have to agree with your comment. It's what ever the person is most comfortable saying.

"My Dad passed away 8 years ago and I have very vivid dreams about him frequently none that make any sense at all"

Nice to dream of him all the same

I was just telling Mr N that I dreamed about his mum and step father last night. Both have been dead for several years. We decided what I dreamed was very true and relevant

"Have yoy ever had dreams of a love one who's passed away? If so what happened in the dream ? Did it happen more than once?

My Grandmother passed away in my teenage years. We were really close. Many years later when my husband and I were trying for kids I started praying to her to help me gave kids. I don't know why i prayed as I'm not a big believer in the afterlife but about 6 months later I started to have dreams of my grandmother. I couldn't always remember what happened during them. The dreams became regular and about 2 months after they started happening I found out I was pregnant. After this the dreams stopped.

I now only occasionally have dream of her and mostly just when I need her. Brings me comfort though."

This is literally exactly what happened to me! My Gran died in 08 when I was pregnant with my son, and she came into my dream the night before and said goodbye to me. Then in 2012 I started being really aware of her again - could intensely feel her. Then I fell pregnant with my daughter that summer. I had a lot of trouble conceiving, so it was a bit of a miracle. Grans rock x

"Not wishing to appear unsensitive, when when did the term 'die' become unacceptable? Why have people started using the term 'passed away' and it seems people have become too lazy to say 'passed away' and now only use 'passed'?

I think it’sa way of people trying to soften the impact. Which can feel gentle to some, or invalidating or confusing to others. I tend to say died, but I’ve had a v close relative die recently and I’m used to being direct about it.

Nothing bad, it's like he checks in to see how everyone is

When my dad died I had a recurring dream for about 2 years afterwards. Every 6 weeks or so I'd dream that he was still dead, but I was trying to dispose of his body and was trying to use my parents' hideous 1970s wardrobes with enormous orange door handles as a coffin, but it was too heavy so I had to get my mum's neighbours to help me lift the wardrobe with his body in down the stairs and into the hearse.

Oh yes, for some reason all the action took place in my mum's old house in spite of the fact she'd not lived there for decades and the two of them had divorced acrimoniously 11 years before he died.

I'd usually wake up before the makeshift coffin was halfway down the stairs.

I'm not sure it's a dream that is pregnant with meaning, but it is fairly representative of how difficult our relationship was.
