"Off the back of a kink thread some months ago, just a message for those wanting to learn impact play and can get to Croydon. There is a workshop on the 27th November. If you are on the site that cannot be mentioned you can look for it there. Site regulations prevent me giving more info Happy thumping!" I’m not impressed. My personal opinion , anyone who needs to go on a course, really isn’t safe to be doing this. Common sense. Effective non verbal Communication and interpersonal skills, not being a twat. You can’t teach that

This is why I attend a monthly rope munch, safe play is of utmost importance

Some People think the back is fair game to be "whack happy" and don't consider the kidneys for example. Kudos to all those willing to learn and those prepared to teach.

"Happy thumping ? This isn't my idea of impact play" This was, I thought, a humorous play on "humping" (as MrsDreavus noticed) and not a direction in regard to play. I shall curb attempts at humour in the future.

That is not only in regard to impact but the whole spectrum of interacting. There is importantly the safety aspect for people who are new. A workshop allows for an introduction to a range of instruments and how to use them safely in a non judgemental and safe environment.

"Oof. Sometimes someone necromances a thread that reminds you why. Munches and workshops are fantastic places both for learning safety tips that may have flown under your radar going solo and for actually meeting and getting to know people in the community. Generally the only people I see that are particularly against such things or tries to put other people off are the ones who've been banned or at least asked not to return without modifying their behaviours. Getting to know other people in the kink world is important for finding balanced viewpoints and actually getting to see other people's dynamics in action to get a feeling for what is your thing. And places like that are the best places to meet those people without seeming like or only dealing with yet another thirsty dudebro on the internet who thinks kinky girls are easy 💜" ❤️❤️❤️

You can’t teach that " The two aren't mutually exclusive. Yes you're right these are all good characteristics. However so is seeking out technical advice and inspiration. It's one thing going in completely off your own back with commonsense and good feel. However it's another thing going in with these and growing a deep technical understanding from those with years of knowledge and experience (often passed down from others with likewise years of experience). I don't subscribe to this your not a real "dom" if someone has to teach you nonsense. Yes it's about inheritant qualities but it's also about learning and growing your understanding and technical aspects. Often there is a sense that some wish to call out others to self project their own credentials which personally I find is a weak mentality. So personally I think these are a great opportunity. Especially for the promotion of good and safe practices. I don't see them as an indication per se that you're not right as a top if you go to them. It's like saying you go to a crochet class then you're a rubbish crocheter (if that's a word). It's nonsense. Yes inheritant skills are important but it can be good to trade experience and good practice. And like everything some people are better than others and that's OK as kink is for all abilities as long as it's done safely. And this is also why groups like this are so important to many. Mr

Mr" I largely agree with you. I am passionate about education for all sides of the dynamic. My life experience has taught me that common sense is usually no more than social/personal bias, because the sense is rarely common across all groups, and equally the position rarely sensible. Common sense is usually subject to the Dunning Kruger effect "a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities." Add in that most peoples' idea of BDSM and kink comes from porn, erotica, their own fantasies, and social stereotypes, which means individual's commonsense is distorted. Additionally most aspects of kink and BDSM are counter intuitive. Common sense would state that most of the practices are potentially dangerous, so don't do it. But people do. There are those who see kink and BDSM as a bit of sexy fun without considering the potential for psychological and physical harm, this is the issue.
