When people show off what they can afford, what they have, and the status that comes with it, how do you respond and feel? Does it bother you at all?

One person's Aldi buy can be the same as anothers Waitrose buy in comparison.

Some people will show their latest buy purely out of excitement, but to someone else it can be seen as flashing their cash when in fact its just their normal.

Do you recognise it when this happens or do you wish people just wouldn't do it? Does it anger you?

And how do you feel when you receive messages on fab of people showing their cars and job titles in order to impress, people seemingly flexing on the forum?

Personally I couldn’t give a toss. Some people being materialistic gives them affirmation in their life of what they have and it’s not my place to judge that. Me personally I’m not impressed by money or possession I like nice funny people and you don’t need duck all for that

Depends what the item is, how flashing it was done.

If I am in a funny mood, I tell thrm they got ripped off and it is cheaper elsewhere. Or go the other way and call them a cheapskate, as they should have gone for the better model.

Each to their own really on this one.

If people work hard and wish to show off or flash the cash then good for them.

I work hard and have done for a long time, I do well and financially I’m more than secure, I don’t show off or really mention it (until this post).

I have shown people a picture of my car but only as it’s come up in conversation, not to show off, that being said I am happy I am in the position I am in but flashing materialistic things or wealth in order to belittle somebody is a proper dick move.

I stay within my budget for things, I've found alot of dupes in beauty products and at a fraction of the price.

If it makes people happy then let them do them.

I couldn't care less and good luck to them as many may have worked hard for that. There are certainly a few here that do that but most of the time they just sound foolish. Lots of people are strughling at the moment and personally think it's in bad taste. And usually is peoe with 'new money' that would do that.

It's obvious when someone is trying to impress with wealth or status. It's not something I care about so I will ignore them.

If someone has achieved something and want to celebrate it then great but status and money don't make up for a void where personality should be.

They wealthiest people I have known do not show it off.

Money doesn't buy you class. I'm also guessing a lot of people with flashy items, are up to their ears in debt.

Showing new items you have purchased and are excited about just shows you are happy to share what you have worked for. I guess if you’re telling people how much it was in a ‘look at me’ kind of way then that is a bit flashy…. Excitement should be expressed … you never know it might make someone else smile who was having a bad day we all have a story and a lot of us don’t know reasoning for behaviour.

You can pick up a 2016 merc for 10g

Can pick up a 2016 maserati for 13g

BMW 2017 model for 9g

The list can go on and on

And hide it behind a private plate so it can’t be reg checked

I really don’t like the flash the cash types, it’s not necessary and doesn’t impress me. I know of someone who constantly tells me what he’s bought, what he has and how much he earns. But I’ve caught him out so many times but I sit silently making note. My 8 year old once asked him how much he earnt, he told him!! Then scoffed at a lower salary and told him that’s for poor little people…a similar salary that’s mine and the salary I live comfortably on!

People who brag about money or possessions, and somehow see this as a sort of validation of their existence, or a confirmation of their status are a big turn off for me…on here and in life generally.

People who are genuinely excited or proud to talk about something that they’ve worked hard for and/or have wanted for a long time are different entirely. Then I’m just happy for them

The only things I need is food, water, clothing and somewhere to sleep. Everything else is a want. I choose to live like this as having everything didn't make me happy. I've had a good job, fiance, nice car, house etc. Not for me. Also my dad is wealthy and he's a twat so maybe I just want to be the opposite of him? This life makes me happy and I'm more comfortable having nothing and being able to carry my life wherever I want than have lots of things that tie me down.

I think most people consider their life is normal and just talk about it. Very few intentionally brag and they're easily ignored.

For instance I was chatting to someone recently about an event I was going to that I considered very reasonable. I showed her the flyer and she was horrified at how expensive it was. I wonder if she thought I was bragging

Eh, I'll be honest, it does bug me. But it's definitely not jealousy. I just find it a bit pretentious and insensitive at times.

I don't mind people talking about something they've bought, or them showing the world something they are passionate or excited about. But there's a point where it's more so bragging and boasting and that's where I get a bit funny about it.

I like to think I am pretty humble.

Don't flash it, stash it.

Dress down, keep a low profile and never mention it. Definitely no flashy cars or obvious signs.

You won't attract "hangers-on", and the people that do want to mix with you won't be any the wiser and thus are more "genuine".

I grafted hard yesterday seen homeless man in the doorway I just put my hand in my pocket & gave him all my days wages just seeing the man cry made me well up I gave him hug & walked on by knowing that money meant more to him than me I’m not loaded btw & the fact today I seen him again he’d bought himself new sleeping bag & mattress plus food that made my day more so but then that money was for my bills but they can wait till another day

What is a normal conversation to some is deemed showing off to others. It would depend on what one feels is worth placing a status on. A supermarket hardly warrants that. Don't place a status on anything and talk simply for the sake of it and both parties would feel much more comfortable to engage with each other.

If you think someone has a lot more money than you, do you avoid social occasions with them?

It can be quite uncomfortable if you know you're going to split the bill and they don't have the same financial constraints you do or they want to go somewhere that's going to cost a lot of money. Nowadays I'd just say o couldn't afford it but in my younger days I'd either refuse to go or sit quietly calculating what I could do without to pay my share of the bill

If you work hard for what you have then who is anybody to judge you for enjoying it, as long as you’re not a dick about it.

And If somebody didn't want to meet me because I had money or a nice car etc then it’s not something I’d lose sleep over, it’s says more about them than it does about me.

A lot of people flashing the cash probably don’t genuinely have it - it’s all on finance… especially given the debt situation over the years.

Those genuinely “rich” will look after it and don’t need to flash it ostentatiously.

I've always been 'function over form'.

I have little brand loyalty, drive a shit car because its economical, cheap to tax and don't car that it's been banged more times than your average fabber.

I don't buy designer clothes. Don't eat out much. Am happy with a £5 bottle of wine.

I'd rather spend money on things that matter than luxuries. Yes - I'm a bit of a tight arse but that comes from being self employed and having zero guaranteed income.

Couldn't give a shit if someone has a flash car, nice job, wears designer clobber and goes on expensive holidays.

Naked - everyone's pretty much on a level playing field.

Just to further add I was that guy myself homeless living on streets for 2yrs nobody to turn to I’m single wit no family around me iv gone it alone after receiving no help & managing just fine by myself hence why my circle is small my business is mine alone & no body will ever know that apart from what iv said above I’m jus glad I’m back on 2 feet working & been able to support my bairn as my profile states I’m open minded & friendly as they come genuine down to earth Yorks guy
