Just because someone comes from a good background doesnt mean their spelling isnt going to be perfect

It's ok to spell poorly because one comes from a modest background?

I don't see how those things are related at all.

Unless someone has a condition such as dyslexia, poor spelling is down to lack of effort and insufficient care. It doesn't cost money to learn to spell.

If only there was some kind of institution where young people could go. A place where they could learn things, such as spelling regardless of their parents social standing. It would be great if such places were free to one and all...

Virtually everyone in this country has had the same opportunity to education as everyone else. Apart from aforementioned conditions, there's not much excuse so I put it down to ignorance or laziness if there are several spelling mistakes over the course of a few threads. Neither trait I find attractive. I don't think anyone has mentioned how rich (money wise) they are except for one who boasts and in my view people who boast are insecure.

Education is too often associated with income I'm peoples minds, everyone is entitled to a free education. It is sometimes true that better state schools are in areas where incomes are higher. I come from a 'working class' background but was lucky enough to go to a grammar school until I was 18 followed by college in a time when there were no tuition fees. Both my kids had schooling until 18 with no cost to me except my taxes. I think that your attitude to learning has got a lot more to do with your success than your income.

I don't see the connection between ability to spell and class...

And I don't think i've ever seen anyone criticise anyone or profiles seeking people based on perceived social class

Up to A-levels for young people I would agree with you. University is now much more difficult for certain groups and there is almost no availability of adult education now.

For the purposes of learning to read, write and spell, I would agree that the opportunities are there for all.
