+ Looks pretty. For a few seconds.

Negatives, especially where it affects other people and animals heavily outweighs my few seconds of it looks pretty.

I say yes, in an open area not specifically a professional display either.

Planned with neighbours/Family it can be a nice touch.

Not the local back alley display from a couple of immature clowns out deliberately to piss people off.

I did a mini bonfire and for the children at the nursery I work at yesterday. They were all mesmerised by the flames. Another member of staff lit sparklers. Everyone loved it.

Trouble is that the "fireworks" now on sale have the same resemblance to the things available when I was kid, as an assault rifle does to a cap gun. Yes they are only supposed to be sold to adults, but unfortunately those adults don't have to undergo any form of intelligence test and some of them have not the slightest concept of the safety precautions required when handling explosive devices. It might seem a cute photo op to let little Jimmy light up the MegaBang5000, but too many little Jimmys end up in hospital suffering from digital insufficiency and/or crispy fried epidermis.

I celebrate Guy Fawkes night to honour those that lost their lives trying to protest the wrong doings of those in power. I fully get how over stretched A&E gets on nights like these. There are some total idiots and yes, animals do get stressed. I'm not denying that. In the next 10 years I reckon that we will no longer have any Bon Fire nights. I'll be sad to see it go.

Absolutely f**king hate them! A load of the most popular ones just make the loudest noise possible, and really wouldn't sound out of place in a warzone.

Around lunchtime, a couple of little bastards (probably aged about 12) ran along my road and threw a lit firework under a parked car. The little shits laughed as though it was the funniest thing in the world, but if the car was leaking either fuel or oil, the whole bloody car could have gone up.

Restrict them to organised, accredited displays only.

Can appreciate silent ones and organised displays. But the animals/kids who injure themselves horrifically, pets/ veterans/ refugees traumatised, & all the other pointless suffering over random, unexpected fireworks, on a random night (not the 5th) means I've no time for the 'I'm alright Jack' brigade. Not all historic things need to be lauded, plently of shit happened in the past, yet we have evolved passed that barbarity, plus technology means we can move forward. Silent fireworks exist, we should use them, at prepared/organised events... Then everyone can have a good night celebrating, not just 1 group at the expense of several other groups.

I don't understand the repeated appeal. I've seen plenty over the years and some impressive ones at Disney but now it's like meh, same old thing.

The noise is unnecessary. I lost a dog on bonfire night as some twat in my street was letting them off at 5pm. She ran into the woods and despite searching I couldn't find her. Went out at first light next day and amazingly found her but she couldn't walk. Carried her home and she luckily recovered.

But was it worth it so someone could see some shiny things in the sky?
