Following on from the xbox/ps debate, Keenfucktographer made a good point about console/pc games today not giving you much of a sense of achievement or engagement.

I also feel that as most console games are now big budget releases theres little room for innovation or quirkyness. Possibly the only original title I've played recently was Child of Eden, which if you have a kinect you really ought to try. Turn up the volume and Its a brutal yet beautiful assault on the senses.

But I think back to the old computers, speccy and commodore, there was a dearth of original material, true some worked and some didn't. But there was a lot more choice. Big business hadn't yet encroached and spoiled it.

I'm happy that the smartphone market has brought back some of that originality and quirkyness. Someone at home with a pc has a good idea for a game and can get it out there for minimal outlay. Can't fault it.

Anyone else out there long for another Manic Miner?

So my fave games of all time, in historical order and agonized over!

Intellivision, B17 bomber

Atari 2600, Joust

Commodore 64. Chiller

Spectrum, Pssst!

Megadrive, micro machines

Playstation, skull monkeys

Xbox, Halo.

Thoughts/comments?

Right now I'm hooked playing World Of Tanks online on the PC. Completely free to play and good fun as you battle other online players.

On my phone I quite like Airfix and Max Payne.

Xbox is Black Ops.

Southwick

My interest in computer games ended with Pacman and Space Invaders (played in the pub at a coffee table style console). My son played Sonic the Hedgehog on a Sega mega-drive. Am pleased to say that I've not missed computer games as I would probably spend far too much time playing them.

The Streets of Rage and Shinobi games on the Megadrive were amazing, and as for the SNES that was just sheer 16 bit brilliance - I lost track of the number of times I played Super Aleste, and the soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country 2 was breath taking, you could fall asleep listening to some of those tracks.

Micro machines was brilliant. The first zelda game on the original Nintendo was brilliant! ( I was 11)

But the only game that ever really turned me into a controller weilding hermit was oblivion on the Xbox. I didnt get change to play skyrim much coz I lost the Xbox in the custody battle x

I wasn't a huge fan of the game but do remember it featured the voice of the late great Tony Jay, who also voiced Megabyte in ReBoot - now THERE was a voice with some real might behind it.

Some great games in the Thread.

Here's my contribution (some already here some not)

All of the Halo franchise love it now collecting the Mega bloks too much to Mrs Noobs consternation.

All the DOA franchise have 4 on Xbox and 5 on PS3

Driving games - Forza Motorsport took over from PGR. PGR 1 and 2 where fantastic on the original xbox. we used to play 8 on 2 TV's

Total War Medieval 1 with the dark age expansion was my favourite.

Much underated but the best boy's night in multiplayer Ghost recon. 4 online splitscreen on 1 Xbox projected onto the lounge wall. We were unbeatable.

Best Family games Lego Star Wars and Little Big Planet.

3d games Wipeout on the PS3.

This years game and now possibly my all time favourite L.A. Noire. Totally new experience.

"and i cant believe double dragon hasnt gotten a mention

shame on you

it wasnt as good as the finalfight series lol

FF was good but it wasnt better than DD streets of rage was better than FF

When me and my mates were young, god knows how long ago this was but we all used to love playing Duke Nukem on PS1, to be fair looking back with the Pig police and strippers on there, im not sure why we were allowed to play it when were too young for a game like that. Was a fun game, good for a laugh and a bit of messing around!

Oh god i know tell me about it, the picture was shocking we just used to run in the bars and shoot the pole dancers so all the Pigs came! Sure we had some cheats for it as well that did some right silly things to the game lol

Spectrum: Spy Hunter, Tapper, Firelord, Cybernoid II, Uridium, JSW, Bounty Bob Strikes Back... So many hours of my life spent on those games.

When I was older I had an Atari ST and played stupid amounts of time on Kick Off, Sensible Soccer, Rocket Ranger, Midwinter, Lotus Esprit Challenge.

On PC I've only really played Call of Duty, Counter Strike and Trackmania.

That sums up the last 25 years of gaming for me

Omg... How did I forget about sensible soccer, only the greatest footy game ever! Didn't the same company make cannon fodder too?

Big shout out for the black and white games... Classics

Wonderboy 3 was one of the first home console games I ever played, it must have been around 91, and I still have fond memories of it to this day - turn into various animals and go around slaying dragons, wonderful!

Had a look through my stuff as still have an old speccy+2 and megadrive for a nostalgia kick

Found some gems I've kept.

Ultimate collection boxset, jetpac, attic attack etc

Barbarian, complete with gladiator Wolf on the cover!

Spyhunter, buggy boy, Rygar, beach head.

Desert strike, which was a great Iraq era

game, altered beast, Alladdin which was

actually a great film tie-in game.

Also found a bunch of cassettes from spectrum magazines with hods of game

Demos on them. Do they do that anymore in games magazines? Not on tape obviously!

Some of the Xbox magazines give away game demos.

Had to have the the spectrum. Surgically removed as a kid! Jet set Willy target renegade and Robocop were the business

Now its all about Fifa!

"

Didn't Maria Whittaker also pose on that cover? I doubt she'd have been able to swing her sword very fast with boobs that big - mind though, whoever she was fighting would probably be so distracted that she wouldn't need to.

I play mostly mmo games World of Warcraft but I love Twisted Metal and Grand Theft Auto on ps3, Matt plays many mmo but he goes through ps3 games insanely fast then trades them in for the latest game.
