Elon Musk is sacking half of Twitter staff.

Im guessing most of those jobs are ones that are not needed and are there for friends and family or duplicate jobs.

I have that where I work.

You only have to look at the majority of state ran positions within the public sector. Having worked in both private and public sector, I can tell you that there are about three positions in the public sector roles to every one that would be in the same role doing the same work in the private sector.

There are so many roles duplicated or over staffed it's mind blowing.

I've just read about the Twitter layoffs and it sounds horrendous. The manner of how it's being done and the fact it seems mainly to be because Musk overpaid for buying Twitter, means I personally think it's bullshit.

All jobs will become automated thats what the elite are aiming for no one dispensable and we are all playing along with it auto check outs the demise of cashless society advance technology isnt everything its cracked up to be can be the end of us...cant have the majority of the world with out jobs how would they survive or is thats what they want at the top

I can well believe it. I have worked in the public sector for over 40 years. It is a standing joke that if it was run as a business it would go broke in a week. Yet when I worked out in the private sector for a year, expecting it to be much more slick, efficient, better organised etc. it really wasn't. Same arsehole upper management, just fewer of them but running hugely inefficient systems and treating their staff like shit and the s-laves/commodities/disposable assets that they clearly believe them to be. The workforce was generally terrified of managers. Not being a shrinking violet and not understanding that I was supposed to be terrified, I didn't last long.

Agreed. Sounds awful. He's clearly realised it's not actually a huge money-maker (hence increasing charges to be verified etc). Some of jobs I read going we're definitely not "bullshit" - like the teams which highlighted misinformation. What could possibly go wrong?!

If part of the job is to keep the lift available for people who really need it, then it's not a bullshit job in my mind. I spend far, far too long sitting and waiting for lifts at work, waiting because they're full of perfectly able people who could use the stairs, who studiously ignore a wheelchair user and let the doors close and off they go. I have, in the past, spent half an hour waiting to go down one floor.

For large companies there is a time requirement for layoffs, and the affected staff are suing.

Exactly. I did a stint in public sector it’s unbelievable the levels of incompetence all the way from admins to leadership.

In my currently company no one survives if they aren’t any good they are fired quickly. It’s hard to fill roles, it’s so hard to some fill roles, we have to offer all kinds of benefits like private school fees for kids, business class flights for family members but we are good at taking the best staff from other companies

It’s a tough one because not that many techies can or even want to progress into management. The best way is to hire every single role (tech or non tech) on the basis of two criteria - technical and interpersonal expertise and give them a blank page for a job description

I have to deal with local government on a regular basis. Overstaffed and very poor calibre in senior positions.

That's my experience anyway.

They love meetings about meetings, project managers for everything, teams meetings where one person is there purely to click next slide. Then bleat on about how busy they are.

And judging by the amount of out of office emails I get back have a very generous leave allowance.

I work in local government wish we were overstaffed... there is too much poor management and too many meetings or bad use if funds BUT chronic understaffing and underfunding in key areas such as Environmental Health and Social Services.

I was told years ago, if you can do the job your paid for. Good chance, you will never get promoted.

I work in education, we have more people in support roles than we have teachers. Many of them are needed,especially those in lower paid jobs but there are lots of jobs for the boys or girls. Just last month the teaching staff was cut again.

One of my works manager's, he does around a hour work a day and then sits around doing nothing. Gets a few hundred k a year. Tells the boss he is so busy and too much to do but truth is he does nothing all day.
