What is the point?

Have people lost the art of conversation?

I just mimic their messages.

They send ‘hi’

I reply ‘hi’ and I keep up until one of us get bored or bring up a better subject

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

Maybe take it as a hint that they aren’t really that interested in talking, but are always wary of causing offence based on reactions they have had from people getting angry at being rejected to they keep the conversation to a minimum in the hope you will just get bored and stop.

Loss of imagination lack of glossary and laziness due to advance technology, which makes typing little outdated

Calderdale innit

I just stop replying if they can't hold a decent conversation and reply with one or 2 words.

I've done it myself if I'm not really interested in someone ,but being polite

We just delete if they can’t open a message with anything to start a conversation.

We like to connect online first so if people are lazy in messages then they aren’t for us.

A lot of people are just simply clueless when it comes to writing a message and don't know what to put in a message to try and engage with other. Hence also the multitude of blank / fill in later / one line generic 'i'm looking for women' profiles.

An interesting line can appeal more than an essay of waffle; better still is an interesting picture.

Worthing

If it's one sentence after no reply for a day or so then I usually move on.

I think the problem is that people spproach messaging asbif they're having a live conversation rather than as if they were writing a letter

Personally I love a long message conversation. An interesting, thoughtful exchange of concepts and replies can be a wonderful way of passing an hour or two on here.

But it can also be like pulling teeth. And it's not always because conversation is a lost art.

Sometimes people can't reply properly. It's hard to get lost in conversation when you have crying kids, or boiling pots or a moaning boss to keep onside. Or a better companion might be taking their attention or sometimes... sometimes maybe the problem is we have lost their attention because we are actually boring them

It's the same with people answering questions but then not asking anything back or trying to engage

South Lakes

One line of chat is not a conversation and is an indication they can't be bothered or not interested. Not many really know how to keep a conversation going.
