Day of the dead

I've spent all afternoon drinking alone and listening to "choons" in Highgate cemetery to remember my brother who died in July. This post is to raise the spirits and get 'dem bones a dancing. Choose a song and if possible share a link so we can celebrate the lives of "loved ones lost" together.

I'm going with "Mollys chamber" by those King's of Leon. Enjoy

I first heard this at the end of a Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing in the recent series; one of my partner's favourite TV programmes. She passed away on 1st May.

This makes me think of my Gran. We where at a charity night and the venue had a singer who was taking requests. My gran requested Memory so the woman absolutely belted out Memory from Cats and got a great reception from everyone. My gran just sat there with her arms folded.

When it was over she went "fucking hate that song. Wanted the one from Barbara Streisand"

I live local to Abney Park cemetery in Hackney. Its a bloody gorgeous place to chill and reflect. Very over run in places. Used to be a big gay haunt but too many families and dog walkers now.

Not really I just like the melody and the vibe, it's the theme tune to a Norwegian TV show on Netflix called Nobel, its excellent BTW

Its lovely the power of music has. How it can evoke memories and emotions. Even if its a song you dont like.

So, for my dad who died in May:

Cathys Clown by the Everly Brothers.

For my mates dad Cliff who died in March:

Memories by Elvis Presley

For my mate Danny who was murdered by the IRA on 30th Dec 1993:

Suedehead by Morrisey

Ha ha, that's brilliant. And exactly what i mean.

They dont have to be brilliant songs. Just ones that bring back memories of someone and make you smile and laugh....even if you hated them when they used to play them.

Ps...Tenacious D are playing at the O2 next June/July

Nimrod is exceptionally moving and thought provoking.

Me and my sister did discuss about playing it at my dads funeral (he loved military music), but we both agreed that if we heard it we would both lose it.

You are right … I love military music, and love Nimrod, but it does make it a bit difficult now x
