Please help as I’m a terrible bore

My nan’s spare room.

I think technically I’m quite good at being a bore but that’s by the by.

What I don’t realise is when I’m being too chatty.

Here’s the rub, often I’ll be messaging people and we will be chatting and I’ll send a message which gets a reply, but that reply will just be an emoji.

My question is, is a single emoji reply really a nice way of saying

Thank you very much, I’ve enjoyed your almost stimulating conversation, wit and repartee, but now if you don’t mind, you’re actually getting a little boring and I’ve got other things to do.

By the way, I take it as a nice way of ending a conversation as it is at least a reply.

It's not them. It's not you. It's the glue.

I don't gel well with lollers or those that suck you dry and give you nothing back ... fuck em.

By suck you dry I didn't mean .....

Oh yeah I mean just a word word reply or a emoji is pretty fuck a sign that they aren't invested so much anymore.

It happens and can in my opinion be a little rude if they ghost out of the blue (have about 3 like that!) And I may message again like a sarcastic response but ultimately it's probably dead. Certainly wouldn't worry about trying to keep making enticing new chat.

Sometimes it could be that they don’t have time to stop and formulate a proper response but they want to acknowledge your message.

If you then hear nothing from them , then yes , the correspondence is tailing off.

A lot of my conversations come and go. There's very few I chat to every day. I find the conversation will peter out naturally and maybe restart again weeks later. If I just got an emoji response I'd probably see that as an end for now and maybe talk another time

I’m not suggesting people are being lazy because I find it tends to happen with people who are friends or I’ve had a fair bit of chat with.

I appreciate that the message ping pong has to come to an end somehow, I personally think it’s probably a nice way of doing it.

Just reply with an emoji and engage in a battle of wills until they give up and stop!

A closed reply, as opposed to an open reply, generally means the conversation has run its course

Not really from our perspective sometimes I send that as reply when I can’t really reply but don’t want to leave someone hanging.

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

If it's someone who isn't an established friend yet, then it's lazy communication or their way of ending the chat. Move on.

This for me. Some days I'm just not chatty at all and feel bad when I write 1 sentence in reply to a novel. It's always a really entertaining novel message that they sent too... and all I can manage is

Yeah

Also a good point. Bring back phone boxes! If they weren't in, tough. No message left, just try again later when it's stopped raining and I have another 5p for the call.

If all I get back is either repetitive single word replies or emojis, I’ll simply end it with something like

“I’m afraid I’ve got to go, I’m off to the chiropractor, I’ve knackered my back from carrying this entire conversation”

I sometimes jus stick love hearts smileys or thumbs on messages. It doesn’t mean I’m bored just busy. If I was bored I’d just say Ok I’m bored now and ending this conversation.

Ooo I feel like this was on task master. I think the answer was somewhere between 450 and 500 but I can't remember exactly I suppose it also depends on the size of the tin?

How many grand are in a kilo of rice?

Doughnut

If im chatting for a while - quite often my boredom threshold gets hit and other times I feel people are either answering because its polite or just stringing out a conversation - i’ll just move on - you kinda know who’s engaged by their responses - if you’re making all the running and getting very little back … not worth the effort.
