I absolutely deplore receiving messages on my phone or fab in text speak. Anyone else feel the same way.

I dislike text speak intensely, sometimes enough to rule people out on that basis. I am not sure what it is about text speak that is so offputting for me... I can be tolerant towards one or two abbreviations but certainly not the entire message.

I tend to delete it if it's looking like I need an expert in hieroglyphs to decode it.

I don't mind the odd shortcut but generally no, 'lol'

Smileys are okay and can convey emotion as well

I can't be arsed with translating full text speech to be honest...

I received an email from the partner of the firm of solicitors we use: in text speak.

I wasn't impressed!

There's no need for it.

If I wanted to meet with someone that types like Ali G speaks, then I would hang around with the Staines Massive. Westside.

I think we're showing our age

Smileys can be good, and fun, but, for me, I like to receive an email etc. which actually looks as if since effort has been put in to it

That's a serious faux pas in my book

How does anyone understand text speak? We certainly don't. We tend to delete text speak messages

We agree, as a whole we hate it too, but can handle a one or two every once in a while.

I agree and I think that is part reason of my dislike of text speak - the fact I have to decipher as opposed to read and I am impatient lol. The other is about what somebody else said earlier... I like to see somebody making a modicum of an effort in communicating.

I think it is utter gibberish and harder to write in text talk, let alone decipher, far easier to write in proper english.

I dont mind it via text message off my teenage son or teenage brother, but when it comes to mails on fab, it really annoys me.

Can't stand it. It's lazy and immature. If we get a message in text speak we assume its from a 16 year old lad and we instantly delete.

I hate it. I don't mine abbreviations like lol and imo but in general I loathe the use of txtspk.

I also can't understand using "nuffink" in place of "nothing", for example, except for comedy value. It doesn't save on characters, so what's the point?

It just makes the writer look immature, chavvy and poorly educated in my opinion.

We have enough text speak when talking to our daughter or niece via text and really don't like it on here, if we get a message that's written in textspeak we delete without even bothering to read the entire thing and if the profiles written the same way it puts us off completley!

On most phones it's harder to write the gobbledygook as they all tend to come with predictive text enabled!

Rant over
