Who do you think you were in a previous life?

The catholic tradition of All Saints day today and All Souls tomorrow, prompts me to visit nearby old cemetery and reflect on lives of people buried there. I do wonder sometimes whether there is just one life or our energy travels through centuries of time and space. If that's the case, who do you think you might have been in your previous incarnation(s)?

I would like to imagine with my inclinations and interests, I was a village healer and a midwife like my great grandmother. Someone involved with alternative medicine, maybe slightly odd and not always understood but much needed by their community.

What about you? Any interesting theories ?

I personally find the concept of reincarnation unbelievable but an enticing possibility. I have always held a fascination for the North American Indians before Europeans invaded the Americas. So if I could return to a past life, it would be then, living of the land and respecting the eco system.

Oh yes I'm a huge supporter of donating organs if possible. Just feeling bit dreamy today and reminiscing relatives who passed away, their qualities.

And they are quite a spiritual community, aren't they? Was watching recently a doc touching on Navajo beliefs in paranormal acitivies.

I think us Europeans have a counter productive attitude towards death, mainly due to Christian doctrines. Today in Mexico, it is the day of the dead, for which people celebrate the lives of their love ones that have passed to the other side. Along with you, I will be remembering those that are no longer with us in body, but I know they are there in spirit.

Ah thats not my experience! Similarly to yourself, we don't treat death as a taboo topic in my family. Familiarising with the idea, not living in denial about the end..makes it less frightening to me.

Nah, I'm on the same page. We die and our molecules are recycled by the natural cycles of nature, but we have no evidence for a spirit or anything that persists after death.

In pure energy terms, each atom that makes up our body has an energy value and those cannot be destroyed. Our atoms are reassembled into different molecules, so in theory, yes, the molecules that make up my brain could form part of someone else's kidneys in the future, or part of a tree.

If that's reincarnation, then okay, but it's mainly the carbon and nitrogen cycles

In Europe they do "celebrate" as in remember All Saints and "All Souls" days, people take candles to the graves of their family and loved ones - a lovely tradition in my view.

As for organ donation, that is a completely different topic and one I would not subscribe to but each to their own.
