Do you have any? Any cool and interesting stories behind them?

My great grandad was known for being a kleptomaniac, and one day came home with a box he'd taken from the docks where he worked. It contained 200 paint scrapers. What on earth will you do with all those asked my great grandma - not unreasonably.

I don't know what's happened to the other 199 over the past 90 years, but I do know my husband is using the final one upstairs right now.

Totally my favourite family heirloom

My Dad's house is filled with really old furniture, china, silverware, a Grandfather clock that belonged to his Grandfather and lots more.

I'm currently sitting in my Grandad's old rocking chair, that came from my Grandma's family furniture shop.

I can see in front of me a child's chair, first owned by my Uncle as a young child (he is now 61).

There's a rocking horse in the next room that was purchased for my second birthday, by my Grandad. It's now our daughter's. She has my first teddy too.

I have all my paternal Grandmother's jewellery. I have my maternal Grandmother's Hong Kong origin trinket box, her sewing machine and various other bits of hers.

I have my Grandad's watch, engraved as it was a gift from Grandma (quite personal).

There's a multitude of books on the shelves that belonged to various family members or to my best friend's family, one in particular is over 100yrs old and contains various Grimm's fairy tales.

There's probably more.......

There’s not many heirlooms knocking around as such, but I still have and use the same hairbrush as I had as a teenager that my Nan got me from Avon (you know “ding dong, Avon Calling”)

We also have a garden edge trimmer that must be nudging 100 years old, again a hand me down from grandparents

I don't think there are many heirlooms per se, but when I turned 21, my aunt gave me a necklace that had belonged to my grandmother, who died when I was quite young. It's not valuable, but it's precious.

I have a camping packing list written by my mum. Every time we went to a festival she changed the marker when it was packed in the car. I always giggle she had to write “tent”.

It’s totally falling apart but I cherish what’s left of it.

I have my grans glass cabinet one of those rounded fronted ones she got back in the 40s I think! One of my sons has said he will have it after I've gone! Others said it will b skipped! Think he is only humouring me tbh! None of my siblings wanted it x

OP we need a pic of the working vintage scraper! What a funny story.

I have an annoying heirloom, it's a massive oriental carpet my grandma (whom I am named after but never got to meet) made herself. It was given to me to use with my family but the rooms in the rentals we had had were way small, furniture rested on it and it has been decimated by moths. The feelings of responsibility, shame and incompetence I've felt over this...catastrophe are continuing to this day! Can't maintain it, can't throw it off the end of the pier.

Not heirlooms as such, but I have my late Grandfather's watch, a pair of cufflinks and one of his favourite scarves. The cufflinks were his Dad's, I think, so I guess they've been around a while, but I love the scarf, but I daren't wear it in case I lose it!

More than that, my middle name I guess, which has been a middle name for men in my family for a very long time!

I have a letter from Tolkien to my grandmother, written just before the publication of Return of the King, in beautiful writing: 2 sides, and his signature in elvish script.

That's probably my favourite, but we do have family photographs going back to my great great grandparents as children in the 1870s, which are fascinating.

My maternal grandfather, who I never met, used to collect coins. I never knew of this until my mom saw me doing the same and then she showed me the massive collection he had before passing away.

I still go through the albums every time I visit my parents.

I have a bakelite BUSH radio from 1953, given to my father on his birthday by his father. It still works.

More 'recently' I have a 1st edition hardback copy of The Hobbit, 1942.

My grand father died before I was born but I have a collection or old and rare coins and a penny blue stamp . The letter with it is from my Grand mother dates 1st January 1978 I was 2 months old

If we're going to go to photos, I have photos of all my Grandparents, Great Grandparents and earlier. also have marriage and death certificates; naturalisation papers; poetry for Christmas 1913 written on handmade paper and a host of other paperwork and suchlike. Oh, and my Great Aunt's PhD thesis, typed on a typewriter, in French.

But I did find a picture of a beautiful woman behind a mirror. She's a silent movie actress from 1929 I believe.

Very striking looking woman.
