What a gross fruit, just had to scoop the guts out of 4

Couldn't they have picked a nicer one, like a grapefruit or melon?

Random little rant of the day anything on your mind you'd like to vent??

One year I decided to make pumpkin soup with what I scooped out and spent most of the next day sat on the loo.

It used to be a turnip when I was a kid. Had to use a sharp veg knife to whittle it out at risk of losing a digit

Can’t you dry the seeds then make pumpkin seed bread or something? Or grow your own next year

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

I watched a video about easier ways to deal with them that looked good, firstly, cut off the bottom rather than the top, it makes them much easier to deal with the candles etc. use a hand whisk on the insides to loosen all the stringy bits and make them easier to scoop out and then, after carving put some Vaseline on the cut edges so they don’t dry out as fast and lastly sprinkle some cinnamon or other spices inside onto the top so they smell great when the candle is lit!

I saw this too! I tried her tips this year, but the whisking made it fly out everywhere was still a quicker way though!

We always had turnips/swede as kids. They used to stink when the candle started to scorch the veg.

Another Americanism, you are right in saying turnips are traditionally a British veg that was hollowed out,the pumpkin idea came from across the pond.

I'd rather eat the pumpkin than decorate with it.
