Good beans, a good grinder, and a pourover. Nothing fancy. Black coffee with a drop of honey.

When I’m out, I want a flat white made by someone who knows what they’re doing.

I don't really have a fix as one cup a day usually lasts me. I do buy whole beans though and currently have an Ethiopian coffee which I grind using my hand grinder and brew with my Clever Dripper.

Recently bought an Aeropress too which I've used a couple of times but can't quite figure out the right recipe to use so still need to play with that until I know what I like

Thanks, I'll take a look! The biggest thing is that it just doesn't brew enough coffee so need to figure out how much I need to brew and then how much I need to dilute it with water

You may want a hand grinder if you want one relatively cheap but good quality. I have a 1zpresso jx which was around £120 which might be a bit much for some but I've heard good things about the Timemore Chestnut C2 and the 1zpresso Q2 as well

Look for a ceramic burr grinder. It's not necessarily about price, but the very cheap ones are likely blade grinders

Agree on this one. A ceramic or metal burr allows for a more consistent grind size which makes better coffee

"Cafetière is my go to. Our lasses mum brought me a load of Nicaraguan coffee beans back from France they're unreal. They're not ground though and I don't have a grinder, so they got a blast in the blender but it's not ideal.

Any tips on a good grinder? Don't want to spend the earth

You may want a hand grinder if you want one relatively cheap but good quality. I have a 1zpresso jx which was around £120 which might be a bit much for some but I've heard good things about the Timemore Chestnut C2 and the 1zpresso Q2 as well

OK I'll check those out, thanks.

Are the 15 quid ebay specials no good then?

Look for a ceramic burr grinder. It's not necessarily about price, but the very cheap ones are likely blade grinders

Agree on this one. A ceramic or metal burr allows for a more consistent grind size which makes better coffee

I see, thanks for the advice "

No worries, this video might help you a little more on understanding the grinders and how important they are:

Most of the time I only drink tea unless I'm out and about. It's very hard to get a good cup of tea on the high street.

See https://youtu.be/YBl9aXbljLA for reasons.

"I shuffle unsexily to the cupboard, grab the jar and sprinkle a generous portion of granules into a mug!

Top with milk (skimmed) and hot water!

Why did you type water twice? m

Have I offended you with the skimmed milk?

Skimmed milk is basically water "

Skimmed is water.

Take pint of proper milk.

Add a pint of water, viola 2 pints of semi skimmed.

2 more pints of water and you have 4 pints of skimmed.

Today I’m purchasing one of those hand pump expresso chambers had a demo on Friday and it makes it good as a coffee shop, much better than aeropress in my opinion. You can get a blade attachment so it can take pods if you don't want to grind beans when out. It’s mostly for camping and long stays in hotels , works out 3 Dirham per coffee using Pods instead of 20-30 per cup at the hotel , chamber is 270 Dirhams

Skimmed for me in summer and spring, semi in autumn and occasional full fat in winter. I always keep a packets of powdered milk in (all three types) so when I run out I’m not forced to pay £2.50 at the local co-op, or worse not be able to make a macchiato at all.

I think you owe it to your coffee to give it solid organisational skills.

Rost beans on a subscription through the post or from a local purveyor. Medium roast, medium ground in a electric burr grinder. Goes into a double wall french press. Steep for 5 minutes (time to let the dog out and go to the loo). This give Mr and Mrs the first cup of the day and stays warm enough for a breakfast cup too an hour later.

What a waste of water.
