What’s your favourite must watch horror movies for the spooky season?

Ah I've been wanting to watch this, heard some really good things about it!

I tend to watch The Exorcist and Midsommar, Evil Dead... there are a few I revisit at this time of year.

I second that smile was a good film ,also The blackphone was great too .

I've noticed IT is on over the weekend & always enjoy the original one ,not the new one so much.

I'm going to go watch prey for the devil on Monday,that came out yest and looks good.

Old classics like a nightmare on elm street or poltergeist are also good.

Trick or Treat (1987).

Classic bit of 80s horror fun, where a dead heavy metal singer is brought back from the dead to wreak havoc when his final record is played backwards. Complete with appearances by Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne, it's a lot of fun with a great soundtrack.

The tagline from the trailer says it all:

"His fans won't let him die. He won't let them live".

Absolutely THE only choice at Halloween. I hate how horror movies have became either they demonic possession jump scare movie, or the torture porn (Terrifier, Hostel etc) rather than the slow burning psychological horror like Halloween was. Perfect even down to the opening theme.

I went the Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights recently in Orlando and they had a horror house based on the original 1978 Halloween movie. Was surreal and amazing. Plus scary as hell with so many Michaels “The Shape” popping out.

Some of my favourites also. I must admit I did enjoy The Dawn of the Dead remake. Although the original is my preferred. Amazing concept for a zombie movie.

It's on catch up on All4 at the moment. Fantastic zombie film.

Also on All4, Wolf Creek. John Jarrat completely OTT as Outback psycho Mick Taylor.

St Maud, also on All4. Slow-burning, claustrophobic horror.

Hereditary is disturbingly creepy.

Rosemary's Baby (BBC iPlayer atm). Creepy as hell. "This is no dream, this is really happening!"

Love horror movies they’re fun but rarely find them actually scary.

Scream, final destination and the nightmare on elm st ones I can fall asleep watching not as they’re boring but because they are familiar to me.

I find psychological thrillers are more frightening and mess with your head.

That said I do enjoy the classics

The shining (not strictly horror but one flew over the cuckoos nest is also very disturbing)

Not often I like more modern ones but I do like

The invisible man 2020 with elisabeth moss (but I do LOVE her as an actress)

The last house on the left 2009 is actually not a bad remake but I I do have rather a soft spot for Garrett dillahunt.

Last night in soho - Diana Riggs last hurrah

The devils advocate I LOVE charlize Theron, and a rather darkly amusing al Pacino in this, not particularly scary but a fun film

Shaun of the dead not scary but very funny

The craft is a bit daft but good fun too

Lesser known ones I like include

Wishmaster (the leaf actor is fantastically charismatic)

Intruders 2015 - originally called shut in starting Beth riesgraf

Cabin fever 2002

Dead calm - the film that led to Nicole Kidman catching Tom cruises eye (not a horror but special mention here for To die for she’s also in but that’s really a black comedy, disturbing on a different level but masterfully done is another film of hers - Dogville - push past the art house premise and it’s an amazing piece of film)

I saw The Beyond with both Fulci and Warbeck in attendance, along with ZFE (which played in Italian, with Fulci telling the audience "You don't need dialogue to understand a film like Zombie Flesh Eaters" - a great day!

With Fulci, all of his stuff is intentional, and The Beyond was probably the last time he really put 100% effort into his films, before age and illness began to catch up to him.

I will say Halloween itself gets a pass since it is set at Halloween and no way there is no supernatural goings on involved with that shit!
