Christmas lights

Am I the only who reckons switching on Christmas lights in towns and cities this year seems a bit silly, considering there's currently more of a strain on resources than usual, never mind the current cost of electricity?

I get what you're saying but I do like that festive glow. I think if we don't have them then they will be slowly filtered out altogether. I'm not a religious person but I do like a celebration x

In London they are not just for Chridtmas but other festivals of light too. Diwali was in October.

Thats a good point!

In general I have a bit of an issue with this obsession of lighting up buildings... but I'm probably in the minority

I can see what you’re saying, but we have enough doom and gloom (literally), so let’s prance and dance out of the shadows and into the twinkling serenades of Christmas tunes! More lights, more happiness, more peace. A bit less prosperity lol.

yes agreed all the electric cars putting further strain on it, power cuts in Devon and of course sex aids the wand etc all have to be put on an electrical ban like a hose pipe ban only worse

There talk of possible power cuts due to shortage of supply.

The price of energy is going through the roof

So, if it’s a choice of putting the Christmas lights on or granny putting her heating on?

There was doom and gloom during WW2 but they still blacked out the windows

I would turn them on later and turn down the heating in the shops by 1°. Most shops are too hot in winter anyway.

Yeah, couple of days before Xmas maybe.

And I agree about shops, the amount of power that gets wasted leaving lights on 24/7, same for heating.

And why does every business now need a massive tft screen for price boards? My local chip shop has 4 but is always moaning about the cost of energy. I don’t need to see a pic of a plate of chips to know what my take away is gonna look like
