Bad Advice for boilers?

Fareham

Just had the gas boiler serviced.

I asked for advice on energy saving.

The guy said the advice to cut the boiler temperature down could possibly increase the risk of Legionaires bacteria growing (20 to 40deg C ?).

Also run each tap 10 min a week to flush through any germs.

Not scare mongering but maybe don’t react to energy saving without good advice first.

If its a combi you don't need to worry about it as a combi doesn't store hot water. If you have a storage boiler then yes it can be a problem. Combi boiler heats your water and radiators, storage boiler is a large tank where hot water is stored until its needed.

It's a gas boiler to the house not just the radiators....feeds the hot taps... which mix with the cold and cross-contaminate.

People choosing to cut down on their hot water usage will hear this boiler thermostat advice and possibly use less hot water so it will lie stagnant in pipes etc and breed at mid-temps

But you know all this, right. Just a joke, right...

Just adjust the thermostat to 19-20, and set the water temp on boiler to 70 C.

Flush the radiators regularly to clear any air.. You don't have to worry about germs in the Combi boiler, as it doesn't store water...
