Professor Charles Spence, from the University of Oxford, claims that giving up cutlery is the secret to enjoying food as it "heightens the dining experience".

The psychologist said: "Eating with your hands is scientifically proven to improve texture and the flavour of food, as well as a whole host of health benefits.

"It's something more people should know about and get to grips with."

Spence continued: "Many of the world's most popular foods are eaten with the hands - think burgers, tacos, tortillas, wraps, and wings, so why can't other foods be as well?

"Eating with our hands helps to make us more mindful about what we are eating and heightens our dining experience, rather than just thoughtlessly using cutlery like we always do.

The fork gets in the way and separates you from your senses."

Certain foods are perfect for using your hands...they are almost made for it.

Chicken wings, pizza, tacos...but others are just wrong.

You can't eat Egusi stew and fufu with a fork/spoon hands only.

Same with sandwiches, pizza, nachos, kebab

Now proper meals like if I was doing a full Sunday dinner or a spag bol I would use my fork.

Finger food is a whole category in the world of catering.

Some foods will always be better with fingers. Curry and rice feels wrong, but sushi is neatly packed.

Burgers on the other hand look wrong with a Knife and fork.

Eating raw bananas with a fork is not worth it.

Chips: forks

Fries, the McDonald's type, better with fingers.

Stews and pot noodles? Not finger food.

Most of these decisions are based on grip, finger grip, burning fingers and how much you can actually hold.

Sushi is meant to be eaten with your hands. I can understand why it would heighten the sensuality of it; it’s not the tactile sensation in itself but the sensory coordination that allows you to feel the process of eating from picking it up to chewing and swallowing

Maybe this theory is more familiar with the animal feeling happier with freedom then follow civil models .

Ooh that's interesting. I'm not sure I could do it though. You see some people from certain countries eating with their hands as it is the norm and they do it with no mess. I'd make such a fool out of myself.
