Sleep Paralysis?

Ever had moments where it felt like a dream or somewhat real involving not being able to move?

Now and again, luckily not so often, I've had dreams where I would be in bed but every time I blinked whenever I got up, I would be back in the bed and would feel like something is holding me down whenever I try to get back up. I would then tell myself to wake up over and over while fighting was is holding me down until I finally wake up.

Like I said, it doesn't happen as often now, thank goodness. It was still pretty scary though. It has made me wonder if this is a form of sleep paralysis.

Has anyone else been through something like this?

I know nothing about this but ...... I have read that it is muscles that are relaxed ( as in sleep ) and part of your brain being awake before they are.

I had a terrifying experience post op when I could hear all those around me speaking and asking 'what's wrong with her?' and they were pinching my ear and saying 'wake up' ...... my mind was so awake but my body would not move and it was a very scary few moments.

They told me the muscles hadn't yet woken up but that I was awake brainwise.

Maybe it's similar stuff.

I used to get it alot when I was taking amitriptyline, b very vivid dreams too.

I woke from a night terror last night wondering if I'd actually screamed in real life , heart was racing.

I get bad nightmares if I take to much codeine, I went to bed one night and the duvet was getting pulled off me slowly from the bottom of my bed, I woke up, fuck me it seemed real

Yep, had those kind of experiences, or someone coming up the stairs, standing at the end of the bed. Freaky!

I got it semi-regularly for a few years. Usually it was just a sense of a man coming up the stairs and to my door. A few times the fucker got in my room and sat on my bed. Terrifying.

I also have recurring nightmares where I'm desperately trying to scream but can't. I wonder whether it's connected.

It's a spectre that I experience about once a year, or thereabouts.

It's an awful situation, almost like being incarcerated within your own mind and body, totally helpless.

There was nothing that I could see just couldn't move. It has totally freaked me out. A few weeks after that I really struggled to sleep. I already suffer from mental health issues and anxiety is the worst so didn't help things

Without medication I get this pretty much every time I fall asleep. It’s very scary when it happens as everything feels so real.

As a teenager I genuinely believed I was being haunted as I couldn’t explain the things I saw every time I fell asleep

People normally see a witch or hag pushing them down, just the mind playing tricks on you though

I've had it a few times lying in bed and not being able to move and feeling like someone is in the room.

One time it was a housemate (who I fudnt like) who had jumped up to my window climbed in and went throw my room. In reality he was talking outside.

The last one I had about 4 years ago staying in a shared hostel room. I think it was a woman sitting on my chest and trying to str.angle me.

Not had one in a while. Normally happens when I'm not sleeping very well.

Very true. I don't believe that I'm being haunted by a demon or anything like that. The mind is such a bizarre thing sometimes.

I went through a phase of sleep paralysis in my early twenties. Very unnerving and I can empathise with anyone having it.

Trapped nailed to bed couldn’t move never had

But many times , I had issues inside the dream I couldn’t run cause my legs were stuck tripping on each other .

Then I discovered is because I was sleeping with crossed legs . Causes big issue to run in the dream .

I used to have dreams so safety and so painful

I used to scream to the out side world

“ please wake me up “

But doesn’t work … so I reached myself a self waleningtechnic in the dream.

When it gets into the state there’s no way out and the pain is of dieing in agony

I wake myself up . Is the only way out .
