Getting more plates and putting them on the bar? Or do you count it as part of your rest?

I swear sometimes those damn holes are so stiff that jimmying them onto the bar is like a fucking workout within itself

I literally can't do it. Balancing 2x 10kg plates on my knees and trying to self propel across a crowded gym would just result in me losing my toes. I am a bit peeved that it means I HAVE to pay for a PT if I want to do anything involving free weights or a bunch of other things.

I plate up whilst I am on resting time. Try to hit the timer for every new set. (Keyword is try - I am pretty poor at hitting my timer )

Ah that sucks, sorry to hear that

Having a PT is great though. You can be pretty mindless about it. Maybe it's just me but the pressure of having to research and come up with my own workouts just ends up putting me off.

I have a few set routines I cycle through for the main compound pull, push and leg stuff which makes it pretty simple.

I also use the Fitbod app if I want to switch it up - that generates good routines.

It's just people sharing their experience in the gym. It's a bit like people asking how they get a soufflé not to collapse or how they split egg whites from yolks to make meringue. I wouldn't dream of taking the piss on a "share cooking ideas/experience" thread.

I wonder why some people feel the need to snipe on gym threads?

It’s why 1-2kg wights are the most important wights in the gym so for example

The 0.5 to 2 kg weights are really good. I only discovered them recently and they have really changed how I progress. I used to hit a limit and then stall because the weight jump was too high but just adding the smaller weights incrementally has been a game changer for me.

Yip I was the same a long time ago the smaller weights completely changed it for me small jumps and you keep progressing and before you know it you jumped 10kg so you can now slap two 5kg on the end and start all over again going up in 0.5-1-2kg

These have been great! My gym's lowest are 1.25kg plates and it's crazy how much even that has an effect. They're so good for the compound exercises I struggle with as well

Me reading this thinking. I'm not cut out for gyms or running. Lol!

My exercise routine so I don't fall apart and my body stops working.

1. Manual Supermarket job. Lifting, pulling, pushing heavy shit. Multiple squats to the lower shelves and step up to the higher shelves...walking round the store equals 15000 to 20000 steps.

2. I cycle to and from said supermarket job. Was feeling sick on Sunday so nearly folded up the cycle into an uber but I managed to cycle home slowly with the electrical assist.

3. Personal trainer in the park once a week with bodyweight exercises ocassional resistance bands.

4. Occasional football and gym/leisure centre classes which I cycle to. That's my warm up. I had a free community personal trainer in the leisure centre gym who taught me to use all the weights in the gym....including the free weights, the TRX, the dumbells and the weight machines. There is usually a trainer in the leisure centre gym hanging around so I can always commandeer them for set assistance.

Usually, I don't do the free weights as they are often in use and I don't increase my plates/dumbells the same day/weeks.

You can always ask another gym user for help...most barbell aficionados need a spotter.

I do more sets and reps to build strength as that's more important to me as I get older that increasing the weight to increase the muscle size.

My arms are significantly weaker than my legs so I'd need a lot of different combinations of plates and dumbells much easier for me to just which machines already set with the plates.

"Nither don’t lower the wight or up the wight for that set on that day

What do you mean? How do you warm up? Or hit PBs?

I don’t warm up and pbs are ever day till I can’t go up then I stay there for a couple off days then try again

It’s why 1-2kg wights are the most important wights in the gym so for example

Bend over rows yesterday was 90kg well to days 3 sets off bend over rows will be at 92kg

So you just walk into a gym, load a bar up with 75kg and get going?

Sort off I live in the gym but yes technically I just walk in to the gym room load the bar and go just finshing up now in fact mid brake as I write this ha ha

I think the people who train me would actually murder me if I ever attempted this

It’s definitely not for everyone

Everyone is different if it works for you than it dose if it dosent it doesn’t

Just trial and error and I just found that’s what works for me ha ha "

Fair enough

Lady you are absolutely cut out for the gym!!!!!

Lol! Nah my neurodivergent brain doesn't like the gym. I get more mentally out of the other things than the gym.

I can walk into the gym anxious and agitated, do the workout and leave anxious and agitated.

That doesn't happen with work, football, cycling, swimming, pilates or yoga. I always feel better after these activities. the gym....is a bit hit or miss.
