With the economy down the toilet and costs going up

How many of you are considering hunting your own food to save on costs

Im weighing up weather i should get ferrets again to make sure should it get worse as it will im prepped

Theres plenty food in them fields

Serious question for once

Got two air rifles so if things get too bad will find out what pigeon and squirrel tastes like. Also def going to start a vegetable patch in the garden

i dont think they mind hobos but cook em thru some have worms in there tubes

Ive never seen doughnuts in the wild. I think to be truly sustainable you need loads of land, you will get bored of just wild meat pretty quickly. You could have backyard chickens to eat to save you the hunt. I prefer blackberry foraging as opposed to hunting being a mostly vege. I would get bored of blackberries pretty quickly too. I would love to be the romantic idyll of a cottage garden peasant though, I reckon I would do quite well.

I'm not sure if it's worth getting ferrets or not. My dad always kept rabbits at home but that probably works out more expensive than wild ones because you need to feed them however if you have a buck and a couple of does you would be able to supply the whole neighborhood within months. The same goes for half a dozen hens and one rooster. I suppose it depends on space and time available.

Woodpigeon is nice, though not much on one other than the breasts.... BBQ or stew with shallots and peas. Pigeon paté is good too.

Squirrels are quite tasty, I put a skewer through and bbq them, sweet chilli sauce goes well with them, or a peanut satay sauce.

You'll definitely have pigeons on your vegetables, make sure your air rifle is zeroed in well, go for the head....dont waste meat!!

We were lucky in that the foxes kept the slugs at bay this year but our runner beans were decimated by black fly

That's why you go for the head....dont eat that bit (and, if you miss, no wounded bird/animal to hunt down to despatch!)

there are other things out there altho i think il need more than ferrets to bring em down bambi meat is very tasty

I grew some vegetables this year, the best bits were the spring onions and tomatoes. I failed miserably with the rest of the vegetables though.
