"Problem they have is pissing everyday folks off isnt likely to get people onside more likely to push people away from the things they want people to care about " I know. We have had a few discussions on the forums about this. I do empathise with people being inconvenienced and I do not agree with vandalism but then as a few (cannot recall who) mentioned that women would not enjoy equal rights today if it had not been for the likes of Emily Pankhurst etc.

"So how many of the outraged have been actually inconvenienced by these protests? By which I mean more of an inconvenience than having to read about it in the Mail rather too often for your liking." I’m not outraged but had to attend an appointment in a London hospital 2 weeks ago. I had to drive as their was a rail strike. The hospital was outside of the congestion charge zone but was forced in to it to find a way around the block, had to pay the charge, and was over 3 hours late for my appointment which was then cancelled and I have to return. So I would call that inconvenience. Now you can argue that against the survival of the rest of the world for many years or a scan to see if an illness has returned is probably minor, but, for me, that’s important.

I would also ban any oil products in there house. ive laos listened to them op and now i come for you. your now going to be charged 10.00 a litre of fuel. your waste oil now carries a higher charge this oil change will now cost you 20.00 per litre as it now needs to be recycled and reused again in a refinment process. dont like it tough you also have to be responsible as well no point cribbing others ![]()

"Restricting the right to protest is a dangerous path as it leads to authoritarianism. You may find you want to protest about something one day however innocuous it might be but could easily find yourself on the wrong side of the law by just saying something is wrong. If you tread this path. There is enough legislation to deal with criminal damage. The whole point of a protest is to gain publicity for your cause. If it causes some disruption to your daily routine that can only be a good thing as it makes you think about the situation being highlighted. The right of protest and dissent is a fundamental part of living in a democracy. You may or may not agree with their views but to stifle it is not the solution to your opposition." Protesting is not a problem criminal damage on the other hand is.

There's a section about their ideas of protest on their website. Direct action etc. etc. So glueing yourself to a painting done last century or stopping someone getting to hospital is well thought out REALLY China on its own pollutes enough to trash the world jamming our roads not going to change anything " "Trash" isn't the problem. The problem is burning fossil fuels and increasing the CO2 levels in the atmosphere. CO2 emissions per capita in China is only slightly higher than it is in the UK. And even if it wasn't, we should still do everything we can.

I’m not having a dig I’m just interested to see what others are doing to cut down on the use of fossil fuels " I have a degree in environmental science. So I've always done what I could. But as a rough summary over the past 25 years. Reduce domestic energy use, everything from turning out lights, using low wattage bulbs, installing better insulation, choosing energy efficient devices, only boiling enough water in the kettle for the tea I am making etc etc. This is a long arsed list, but you get the idea. Chang my diet to avoid industries that produce methane and CO2. Donate money to and volunteer at charities that plant trees. "Vote with my wallet", give my business to environmentally aware companies. Avoid voting for political parties that support oil companies. Reduce my travel based carbon footprint. These are just a few examples, I could be doing more, and before I am jumped on. I am not suggesting anyone else should or shouldn't do these things. Just answering the direct question.

"Can anyone name a protest movement that achieved anything by pleasing people? Seriously, any protest movement that achieved anything had to deal with a significant number of people saying the same stuff everyone is spouting on here. "They should do it in a less offensive way." "Why don't they just work within the electoral system?" Also for everyone complaining about "criminal damage" to art ot statues: you are proving their point. They are targeting these things because people care more about a statue than a rainforest, etc. Also, it's beyond disingenuous to say that people should work on technology to fix these problems instead of protesting. It's a bad faith argument and you know it. Even if the technology existed it would take political buy-in to roll it out on a large enough scale." More oil for me please.. ![]() ![]()
