We have these people glueing themselves to roads and museums and bridges.

Is it time to send in the army?

Yes. We can't have just any Tom, Dick or Harry gluing themselves to things. We should leave the gluing to the professionals.

I say, we walk up to them with more glue, cover them in it and walk away, so when they get bored, hungry and need the toilet, not only will they have to spend ages peeling themselves off the floor, but also peeling glue from other places and chances are having to get bad hair cuts to get it out their hair.

Also to add.... I didn't join the army to play with childish adults who spit their dummys out and throw tantrums. Also the army would also have to pussyfoot around being careful as they also have to follow rules and won't want to be sued or worse.

I got a face book time out for suggesting just pulling them up and moving them out of the way.

Dont get me wrong people have a right to protest and the global climate issue is an important subject that needs to be highlighted, but do these people not realise that by sticking themselves to roads and bridges is actually worsening the pollution that they are trying to stop by causing miles and miles of stationary traffic all sat pumping lovely toxic exhaust gasses in to the atmosphere? Also how do they fell about the emergency services vehicles they hold up? What if it was one of their family members laying in the back of an ambulance on route to a hospital for urgent care that didn't make it just because some idiot glued themselves to a road to make a point?

They ought to be stood over/ supervised and made to clean up their messes. They might give longer consideration to the merits of their choices then.

All the milk or spray paint or pee/poo soup.... scrub mop scrub.

By all means exercise your 'rights' but we're all trying to co-exist in shared spaces, they should be responsible for their own mess and damage.

A valid point but the vehicle will still be using more fuel and producing more pollution over the entirety of its journey due to the extended travel time that these protesters are causing, then you could go into the cost of extra wear on mechanical components that wouldn't have happened if the traffic was flowing freely as the engine wouldn't have been running for as long.

Did you just refer to yourself in the third person??

You are like a broken record. You keep repeating "deploy the army on these buggers", but dont say to do what?

How would they resolve it?

Having spent 14yrs in the Army, i can guarantee they'd have the same amount of limitations as the police.

Personally, id have opened the bridge up and left them up there.

The police did something similar when protesters glued themselves to the floor of the Natural History Museum.

They closed the museum, turned the lights off, and left them there, with some security to keep and eye on them.

To be honest I agree with this so much. It's like kids playing at adulting, and smacks of not actually wanting to do fuck all versus causing a bit of drama, and someone else literally having to clean up the mess... Throwing soup or shit on a work of art, or preventing the general public minding their own daily buisness raises naff all awareness of anything (other than being an annoying twat). If they genuinely gave a toss they could create petitions, lobby upcoming heightened proposals that impact the environment in their local area... You know, useful stuff?

It’s cute you think all of that hasn’t already been done and fallen on deaf ears. Just goes to show no one has actually taken any time to understand the reasons for the protest. Everyone just wants a reason to moan. People are taking extreme measures because all other options have been exhausted and we’re in an extreme position.

They are asking the government to stop production of oil and gas. That’s what they’ve been asking for over a year. The government has ignored that. They’ve tried marching and protesting. Nobody engaged on this scale. Do you know how many people have engaged in just the Van Gough painting alone? It’s not a complete fail.

What makes it a complete fail is unbelievable people that sit there and complain about all the different methods of protesting, wishing they’d go back to marching or something (which didn’t work!!!) because activists that have the time and energy to get people to realise that our government is not taking this seriously enough.

Wanna know something? It’s from their sitting in the road last year that I even realised what their cause was and how bloody right they actually are. That I did the reading and continue to, to find out that our government continues to expand oil and gas production against the advice of experts.

Honestly we get it, people on here don’t care about the climate crisis.

We get that you want them to march every so often and start online change dot org petitions that do fuck all and raise far less awareness. Over 50 million people have watched the video of someone throwing soup on a painting and explaining their cause.

The funniest thing is, all I’m getting is, at best, ‘I’d support them if they stored inconveniencing mez’ but to that I have to ask, how true is that really?

Our government continues to commit to not doing what these groups want. They’re not going to reduce our emissions by enough by 2030 like we were told we needed to. They’re continuing to fuck up the planet and us and our kids who will be around in 2050 and beyond are supposed to just wait for the trailer for this horror movie to drop before it all goes to shit and millions of people die.

No one reads any more, Steve. Reading some of these arguments people have made is actually so painful because it’s clear they’ve done absolutely no research of their own and are just regurgitating the same boring tired rhetoric of their equally ill informed friends.

"………but do these people not realise that by sticking themselves to roads and bridges is actually worsening the pollution that they are trying to stop by causing miles and miles of stationary traffic all sat pumping lovely toxic exhaust gasses in to the atmosphere? Also how do they fell about the emergency services vehicles they hold up? What if it was one of their family members laying in the back of an ambulance on route to a hospital for urgent care that didn't make it just because some idiot glued themselves to a road to make a point?"

They don’t give a shit. They’re so self-sanctified they think their actions are above all, as proven by the pointless bullshit stunts they pull that improve nothing and galvanise pretty much everyone else against them and their causes.

There are plenty of ways to lobby and protest without being a unmitigated twat.

"Honestly we get it, people on here don’t care about the climate crisis.

We get that you want them to march every so often and start online change dot org petitions that do fuck all and raise far less awareness. Over 50 million people have watched the video of someone throwing soup on a painting and explaining their cause.

The funniest thing is, all I’m getting is, at best, ‘I’d support them if they stopped inconveniencing me’** but to that I have to ask, how true is that really?

Our government continues to commit to not doing what these groups want. They’re not going to reduce our emissions by enough by 2030 like we were told we needed to. They’re continuing to fuck up the planet and us and our kids who will be around in 2050 and beyond are supposed to just wait for the trailer for this horror movie to drop before it all goes to shit and millions of people die.

Because getting arrested is doing fuck all but creating a petition can change the world

Those pesky 'kids'. So naive. Join the parish council, I tell you."

But how didn't you know? It's been apparent for many generations. 'recycling' has been an absolute joke in the UK for years. Most of the 'cruelty free products' on the market only label themselves that way as they don't test the ingredients that have already been pre tested on animals decades ago. People may well be looking the video up but it's to roll their eyes not sign up in support.

People aren't stupid, we all know the world is bleeding resources but we also are educated realists and the 'solutions' aren't any more sustainable at this point.

And who the hell can afford to rip out their heating and electric sources at this point or even in the next 5-10 years.

It's bs & self-indulgent fantasy that there's an accessible, affordable replacement.

These people are feeding their own propaganda machine with carefully edited statistics all tailored to stoke up the immature naive perspectives of the young and the restless and the old and the bored and the anti-establishment who don't really care what the fight is they just want to stick it to big business and the government any which way they can.

Contrary to that old saying however, there is such thing as bad publicity. Govts know these people are not popular with the general public. They are seen as immature entitled brats whos parents are wealthy enough that they can spend their time doing this nonsense rather than getting a job.

I knew it was bad. Didn’t know how bad. Just focused my energy on other forms of injustice. And didn’t follow people talking about the issue. Until people started taking direct action I didn’t realise just how close to planetary destruction we were and probably like many in here, I probably just didn’t care enough until I read about it for myself.

But how didn't you know? It's been apparent for many generations. 'recycling' has been an absolute joke in the UK for years. Most of the 'cruelty free products' on the market only label themselves that way as they don't test the ingredients that have already been pre tested on animals decades ago. None of this is 'new', news.

I’m obviously not as great as great as everyone else? I guess? I’m ok with that. I have read up about it since. I knew climate change existed just didn’t realise the emergency was as bad as it is. I’m not embarrassed to say that. Lol. And now I keep up to date with it as much as I can and I support those taking direct action

How is causing 6 miles of talebacks taking direct action?

By cause enough disruption to force government to listen? How is that not taking direct action?"

And what action exactly have government taken after 3 years of protests like this?

I wonder whats happened to Greta T in all this activity? I hope she didn't glue herself to a flyover in Wolverhampton and they forgot she was there.

"People are talking about them and ridiculing them and complaining I see very few people actually joining the cause. How many people who claim to support this group and those like it actually do anything to change their behaviour that of the political parties and big businesses? "

I wouldn't know. They keep the discussion alive though. Fathers for justice didn't get much support for their methods, but long-term they made a difference.

"Second thread you’ve done on this topic? Why take it so personally? Their cause is a necessary one. And thank God, they’re doing something about it while most of us sit on our backsides complaining.

But it’s not , is it.

They say it’s to make people aware of global warming, well I don’t know a single person who isn’t aware of global warming and it’s consequences.

Their actions are also doing absolutely nothing to combat global warming.

That make it a complete fail on all counts to me.

So is that not on the government? Since when did we give up fighting for something because we’re not being listened to? You fight harder, no? Literally ever act of civil unrest in history would tell you that.

Well because it's not is it? All its doing is raising aw awareness of disruption, not change Let's face it protesting in whatever form physically has rarely yielded results? Lobbying laws, so they have to be upheld? Well now there is a thing that governments find harder to blatantly ignore

The people who were diverted by police had to then pay the congestion charge and ULEZ charge. For change to really be made you need people behind you and on your side and pissing off the members of the public just trying to go about their normal lives isn't going to achieve that.

I think if all the businesses impacted by delays began suing for costs and the people for lost earnings or costs from redirections and blockages. The coffers would soon run dry and the ringleaders would be nowhere to be seen.

Maybe they could have done more to stop the government continuing to expand oil and gas production. I don’t think so but maybe they could have. But I definitely think that the government are being helped massively by the fact that most people simply do not care. They announced new licensing for oil and gas and other than these guys, what pressure have they been put under for that decision?

I’m obviously not as great as great as everyone else? I guess? I’m ok with that. I have read up about it since. I knew climate change existed just didn’t realise the emergency was as bad as it is. I’m not embarrassed to say that. Lol. And now I keep up to date with it as much as I can and I support those taking direct action

How is causing 6 miles of talebacks taking direct action?

Well because it's not is it? All its doing is raising aw awareness of disruption, not change Let's face it protesting in whatever form physically has rarely yielded results? Lobbying laws, so they have to be upheld? Well now there is a thing that governments find harder to blatantly ignore

I don't think it's that people don't care I think that the vast majority of people just have more to worry about right now. It's all well and good tried to get people to shop ethically ect And watch their carbon footprint however right now all people are trying to make sure they can heat their homes and feed their families this Winter. Pointless worrying about the future for your children if you can't protect them in the right now.

"Also to add.... I didn't join the army to play with childish adults who spit their dummys out and throw tantrums. Also the army would also have to pussyfoot around being careful as they also have to follow rules and won't want to be sued or worse. "

Damn human rights hey. Maybe we should send in the Russian army show them how a proper army does things ?

"Second thread you’ve done on this topic? Why take it so personally? Their cause is a necessary one. And thank God, they’re doing something about it while most of us sit on our backsides complaining.

But it’s not , is it.

They say it’s to make people aware of global warming, well I don’t know a single person who isn’t aware of global warming and it’s consequences.

Their actions are also doing absolutely nothing to combat global warming.

That make it a complete fail on all counts to me.

Seriously Steve, I’ve seen a lot of your posts on all sorts of topics and you certainly come across as a pretty well read bloke with a wide understanding of many issues, I’m struggling to believe you needed someone glueing themselves to the road before you became aware of how serious the global warming issue is.

Wouldn’t need to worry about heating our homes and how expensive that’s going to be in such a harsh winter if action had been taken sooner. Globally, not just in the uk. But insulate Britain wanted our homes better insulated as many just let heat escape. People tried to run them over. It all comes full circle.

Perhaps you’re right. That’s the reason that people haven’t done anything. For me, it’s another in a long list of things the govt are getting wrong. And for me, I care deeply about how I’m going to hear my home this winter AND what kind of planet my daughter might grow up to live in. And is it not good that people are taking direct action when not everyone has the energy to? Sorry but I support this action and personally think more of us should.

I don't see how causing more pollution by causing tailbacks, Busting businesses and individuals money in a time of financial crisis is achieving anything other than making people turn against these protesters.

This is very true... At the end of the day we could all individually vote with our feet and refuse to use gas, electricity, petrol, and diesel. I'm sure change would occur very quickly? But as that's never going to happen. It'd certainly help if we just all concentrated on doing our own bit? Buying into less consumer waste rubbish, didn't insist on using cars for a 2min drive to the shop, less buying food sourced with massive air milage to transport it, less packaging... Yada, yada. We can all make a massive daily difference. The reality is nobody really wants to because it's too convenient to not? The new flash mob equivalent of stapling yourself to the nearest motorway has next to no actual big scale impact

I don't think it's that people don't care I think that the vast majority of people just have more to worry about right now. It's all well and good tried to get people to shop ethically ect And watch their carbon footprint however right now all people are trying to make sure they can heat their homes and feed their families this Winter. Pointless worrying about the future for your children if you can't protect them in the right now.

The new flash mob equivalent of stapling yourself to the nearest motorway has next to no actual big scale impact "

For a lot of people it's not inconvenience it's a necessity they can't afford to buy locally grown organic food, clothes ect..

Wanna know something? It’s from their sitting in the road last year that I even realised what their cause was and how bloody right they actually are. That I did the reading and continue to, to find out that our government continues to expand oil and gas production against the advice of experts.

Seriously Steve, I’ve seen a lot of your posts on all sorts of topics and you certainly come across as a pretty well read bloke with a wide understanding of many issues, I’m struggling to believe you needed someone glueing themselves to the road before you became aware of how serious the global warming issue is.

They’re not doing more damage than Governments and others are doing to the planet.

I also don’t know what you want me to say lol? Maybe people are turning against them. But if they want change, the people that can make them stop are the government. And those are the people that my anger is directed at. I’m not changing my mind on that. Thanks to everyone for their points but I know where I stand on the issue and I know where I stand on supporting direct action to force change.

Wouldn’t need to worry about heating our homes and how expensive that’s going to be in such a harsh winter if action had been taken sooner. Globally, not just in the uk. But insulate Britain wanted our homes better insulated as many just let heat escape. People tried to run them over. It all comes full circle.

This is also true. God people were awful then too.

But blocking emergency vehicles and stopping people getting to medical appointments is OK apparently. "

God, not this nonsense again. There’s no reports of this happening and having dire consequences. Literally none. Good to know that you’re okay with them being met with violence. Tells us what kind of person you are.

If we want to change then we can do so with our vote, People often compare these protesters to the suffragettes Or Martin Luther king however the differences they didn't have any other options they couldn't use their vote.

"I think if all the businesses impacted by delays began suing for costs and the people for lost earnings or costs from redirections and blockages. The coffers would soon run dry and the ringleaders would be nowhere to be seen.

And the government would still laugh and millions of us and our kids would still die. Just charge it to the game I guess"

Really? You think that's a balanced and realistic perspective? Time and money would be better spent supporting efforts to tackle things that already plague humanity like cancer research or the persecution of peoples/ races/ religions/ genders/etc. , or genocide or worldwide causes of infant deaths due to treatable illnesses etc. These millions you speak of already die for avoidable reasons.

"I am a Provo

If that puerile tribal fascist and totally irrelevant interjection means that you are boasting that you support Provisional IRA murder, torture, and other terrorism and base criminality then you are moronic and utter scum. Blocked.

I thought it ment military police."

That is 'Provost' and not usually used by ordinary Royal Military Police, and whatever anyone thinks of them they aren't illiterate! 'Provo' is what the vicious subhuman murdering scum in Ireland call themselves, and are called by the nasty little cowardly half-wits who support them.
