Personalised number plate

Bit of a dilemma. I’m not a big fan of names or initials on number plates. I would like to try to mask this number plate… KR17 XXX with another one to help conceal the age of the vehicle (and future vehicles I buy).

Any suggestions on a number plate choice that would do this please? I don’t think you can put a newer plate on it, is that correct?

Thanks everyone.

Can’t put newer, only older, this is correct. But even a cheap one is £240, why care how old the reg on the car is? And is it worth £240 plus the cost of getting plates made?

"Become a diplomat.

A plate would still be required, you just wouldn’t be prosecuted for failing to display one.

Are you worried that people will think less of you for driving an older car?

Why do you want to hide the age of the vehicle?

The car I’m looking to buy has no road tax atm and it’s flagged as having the more expensive road tax…

This vehicle has an additional tax surchage of £355 until 31 May 2023.

Does this mean I need to tax it for 1 year? October 2022 - October 2023 or is there a way to get it cheaper as the extra surcharge is only valid until May 2023?

Thanks.

Instagram way to look loaded

Can pic up a 2017 merc for 10gs

2008 boxester for 9

2016 TT for 12

2015 BMW 4 SERIES M sport 15

Hide its age and people will be under the impression your drive around in a 60-70k car

Cheeseville, Somerset

It's cheaper to just change your name by deed poll to whatever your numberplate is.

Hey presto.

Instant personalised plate.

The 1 bit of advice I will give you is

Do not be fooled into buying from other companies who “specialise” in plate transfers

DVLA is either same price or cheaper as there is no commission added on

Look at the dvla website

Every plate they have on retention will be listed somewhere

You do have to register to purchase but it’s pretty easy to do

You will find something

I’ve got 6 plates in total 4 on vehicles 2 on retention

I’ve got my eye on 1 but it’s never come up for sale as yet and gets transferred every cpl years onto brand new cars

I saw a plate for sale several years ago but couldn’t afford to buy it at the time as they were asking £10k

My car reg plate begins SM69 and ends with something equally interesting.

plate came with car when I bought new and I plan to keep it, just for the fun of it.

Couldn't care less about any correlation of plate to age of car.

This subject has come up a few times, and I've often told the story of the one that I'm thinking of disposing of. It bears the letters FEJ with a low number. So I googled FEJ, and there's quite a lot of stuff relating to FEJ, but the classic is urban dictionary. FEJ is apparently the abbreviation for female ejaculation, with the word used in context, "Last night I went down on my bitch and she fejed all over my face!" Could be interesting what kind of responses you get at a dogging site.

The only car without a number plate is the King's. Diplomats have D or X followed by numbers.

Do what a lot of coach companies in England have been doing for 30 years.

Buy a vehicle with a Northern Ireland plate. No one has any idea how to interpret the year of manufacture and you get away with driving a much older vehicle.

That's where all Northern Ireland buses and coaches go to die.

Look at the Irish plates.

Normally 3 letters and a series of numbers.

Hides the age of the car completely.

Not just Irish plates

DVLA have wide range of cheap cover plates that will have 3 letters 3 numbers

Eg. ABC 123 /DEF 456 etc… I think the start at around £99 which I think is a bargain as they charge £80+ for the transfer fees
