Free every Friday as I work in a care home as it's always fish Friday (apart from once a month and we have a full English lol). I mean it's not take away quality and I don't get a gherkin but we will let that slide x

I'd like to know where your local is then!

I paid £8.50 in Whitby the other weekend, generally I'd budget a tenner these days.

Similar sort of prices at any decent chippy in Newcastle. You can get it cheaper but it’ll just be a greasy mess and probably not cod or haddock.

Getting bloody silly around here. I have to tender a £20 note for a large cod and chips. A tenner no longer covers it.

Special chow mein in the same shopping parade is knocking on 8 quid now.

The energy providers doubled their prices and everyone else now thinks they can do likewise.

Enough is enough.

Seabass fillets from work zero pounds. Going out of date and I just chucked them in the freezer until needed. I grew up with my parents freezing fresh fish in the Caribbean. I'm used to eating a variety of fish and seafood so I'm not limited to cod and salmon.

Lidl sweet potato fries £2.

Good ole London prices. Perpetually murdering everyone.

My peas were in a frozen veg mix from Lidl with corn and beans and carrots.

I usually get treats at work or a chocolate bar.

I save the takeaways for emergencies...like too tired to cook and too tired to go get a supermarket-ready meal.

Honeybourne chip shop.

Large fish chips n mushy peas is about £8

Mini fish chips n mushy peas is about £6 and it's not that mini to be fair.

The local Chinese,

I choose chicken / mushroom chow mein and a pot of sweet n sour sauce, that's about £7 and lovely.

In comparison

Most nice pubs around here, so fish n chips for about £13

I (m) work in a chippy. Looking around £9 where I work for a medium cod and chips.

Sadly it's not just the energy bills that soared. A block of cod has gone up by around £25, a 25kg sack of spuds has gone up 50% and is expected to get worse

Even things like the boxes have shot up in price.

It's not even funny trying to take a family of four to a chippy for dinner now. I get a decent staff discount and have to think about whether to go to the chippy these days

Thanks to everyone that has taken timeout to contribute. It does seem that living in London I pay more than everyone that has contributed to the thread.Speaking to the owner the Fish & Chip shop he did say the price of fish has gone up as well as energy.Over the past couple of years he has been putting it up every 3-4 months if it wasn’t for the fact that he does a nice thin batter on the cod which I like I probably wouldn’t have cod & chips as often as I do.

We're on the Isle of Wight, and our friend owns one of the best chip-shops on the island. The rising prices of stock and materials has hit the industry hard, and she's had to raise prices.

A large cod & large chips from her will currently set you back about £6.50. The cod is always fresh, and the chips cooked to order rather than the usual stewing/drying out process.

Had an order of her a week ago, and it was lovely.

When they added vat to hot food years ago a portion of chips was about 30-40p. A local chippy got around that by charging 25p for salt and vinegar and threw in a free portion of chips.

We used to have fish and chips once a week but the owners sold up and the food has gone downhill. Its saved us alot not going anymore.

We used to pay £4.50 for mini fish and chips which was about a year ago.

Last time we had fish and chips it was £8 in Shropshire about 3 months ago.

No way we could have that every week for a family.

Tend to use kfc or mcds which comes to about £20 for a family meal.

Shame as we like a nice fish and chip meal.

£6.50 last night for Haddock and chips, nobody eats Cod around here, its a dirty fish. Last week to eat in at the seafront £10; both exceptional quality.

I have a friend fwb with a Chinese, her oil prices have over doubled and all of her regular stock prices have increased substantially. With the gas costs fr the big wok burners, it is making it difficult to stay competitive.

A coffee shop in Belfast was due to close last weekend because of increased costs.

The CEO of a large company who grew up on that street and his dad still lives there told them to keep trading and he will pay their electric bill for the foreseeable future.
