Do you have a theme in mind? Or any interests?

All I know is not a tribal

Great idea, make sure you get one of those t-shirts with a wolf howling at the moon on it too. It'll match really nicely and you'll be irresistable to the ladies.

Take a look at Pinterest and other sites for some design and body placement ideas. Then have a consultation with a tattoo artist and discuss your ideas together.

I use the same artist for all of my ink and we have developed a good awareness of what we both like. I respect & value her advice and experience when designing tattoos to suit my body and muscle shape.

Look forward to seeing your new ink in future pics.

How about a picture of David Blane, David Copperfield, Paul Daniels or Penn and Teller. Maybe a famous Pianist?

Yes!!!

And make sure it's from Amazon so you can leave a review. Some of the wolf t-shirt ones are epic.

Do your research on artist in your area. Look up different tattoo ideas online. You'll see them on other people. Get one of those tattoo sleeve or even a temporary one. To see how you think it looks on you for a while.

Remember they're for life. You might have shoulders now.

Just get whatever is on offer or seems cool that day.

It's definitely the time for impulsively choosing something.

I've lots of tattoos that don't have a specific meaning to them. I liked them so I got them.

Find a good (and that's very important) tattooist, put forward some ideas and he/she should be experienced enough to design something for you.

"I like the idea of a realistic lone wolf"

How big or small do you want it? do you want colour or lettering?

Wolves are quite common themes as are tribal, ( according to your tribe-see ancestry.com DNA testing), religious, roses, feathers, wings and dragons.

An unusual one that I've seen is armour-like medieval knight armour.

I'd like one myself but keep putting it off and it will have a personal meaning and mostly hidden.

Just do lots of research on local tattooist to make sure they do the style you like and want . Lots of designs on line to look at . Show the tattooist these and ask them to come up with a personalised design you like

Choose a tattoo because YOU like it. The tattooist is the most important part, the good ones are booked up months In advance, do your homework and have a look at their previous work

Don’t listen to everyone saying make sure it has a meaning.

The one tattoo I’ve got that means absolutely nothing to me is my favourite.

I like very traditional tattoos and they seem to be coming back into fashion these days.

I think old style sailing ship tattoos are great!

"Don’t listen to everyone saying make sure it has a meaning.

This! My sleeve is completely random, it was a cover up and I gave my tattooist free reign. The conversation went along the lines of "do you like Escher?" "Yes I love him" "OK cool". There's also an old tribal tattoo and a big piece of geometric work incorporated in to it. It is completely meaningless as are all bar one of all my others. The important thing with a tattoo is that it looks good, not that it has a backstory

Same, it's also the one that gets the most compliments. I got it done by an apprentice and I just liked the drawing he had on his flash sheet.

Maybe start by looking at what kind of styles you like the most and then searching for local artists who do that style. No point going to someone who specialises in Photorealism if you prefer Neo Traditional, etc.

I’m tempted to give my artist free reign with my leg. I’ll just get him to give me a few of his ideas to think about and then let him loose with one.

I just found something random on Pinterest and the artist made up something that slightly resembled it and I absolutely love it.

Honestly if you trust their work do it. He also did a back piece for me, I asked fir one thing (a very simplistic tribal design that is the logo of a band) and he interpreted it in a way I could never have envisaged. And ive got something completely unique!

Consider going Old-School (aka American Traditional). Tattoos just like your dodgy uncle had! Anything else is rubbish mate. In any case, absolutely do not take tattoo advice from a woman. Because you're a Man. Not a woman.

Get something you like.

It doesn't have to have some special meaning, you're not on an episode of Miami ink. If you think it looks cool, get it

Ignore the piss taking on the thread, if you want something that others don't think is cool but you like it, sod them, get it.

It's your tattoo.

Key thing is find an artist who is actually good. It might mean waiting and paying more, but will be worth it.
