Anyone seen this ? Scary eh , particularly scary for me as I as involved in a company that manufactures and sells synthetic data for training AI.

I read recently that US have banned the export of a certain machine to china that has the capability to do this to surveillance. There are only 4 companies in the world have this tech and it will take China 20-30 years to develop it now.

I haven't seen it, but anything that already exists will not take 30 years for china to catch up. If you go back 30 years there was no internet, 30 before that they were still trying to put men in space. 30 years is a LONG time.

However, my interest is piqued and I will google it and maybe watch

To be fair the Chinese still haven't caught up with the fork and that's been around for ages.

Yep.

I suspect many people posting will be using phones or laptops made or with components made in China.

Technology moves a lot faster than 30 years, whether it's developed legitimately, sold or nicked.

And the Chinese are great at copying or cloning most things.

You would be surprised just how far ahead free thinkers from democratic countries are compared to those raised in dictatorships.

Look at where all the recent innovations come from - new iron battery capacity, 20-Tesla fusion magnets , AplhaFold2, Etheriums proof of stake, Pfizer COVID pill & Variant tracker - All from democratically raised minds

The only way they will catch up is with espionage or help and from Oct 15 USA has made it a crime for any USA citizen, even those in china, to advise or help them. The person clause is a brand new form of sanction to prevent them ever catching up
