How Old Was You?

No... Not that

When you left home?

I was 15, never felt at home at home so I sofa surfed at mates and then one day when I was 17 I was looking at the newspaper and saw an advert for a hotel in Blackpool and within the hour I packed a carrier bag full of clothes, had a tenner in my pocket and jumped the train to Blackpool. Got to Blackpool still with a tenner. Slept rough that night on one of those seat shelters in the front and woke to find £3 and a few fags. Found a hostel and then a job in a pool hall and then my life was moving around living and working in hotels, pubs and clubs.

So I really started being a nomad from an advert in a paper.

19 when I moved in with a couple of friends. Had a brief sojourn back to my parents after a few years when one friend got pregnant and the other couldn't afford the rent with only a two way split, then bought my first house.

17, still at school and not ready to go it alone. My step-dad beat my brother up one night. I told school the next day, who informed social services. Step-dad was arrested and ran away to Scotland upon release, but I couldn't go back even though he was gone. Stayed at various friends' houses until my social worker found me a room in a house share 6 months later. As experiences go, zero stars. Would not recommend.

Nell.

19, if you count going off to uni, but I still 'lived' at home too.

Moved in with friends about a year after finishing university, so 23 if moving out proper.

Same. I was 30.

They kept telling me I was sick and needed looking after what are you doing without us, etc.

My oldest just turned 18- he works and spends his money travelling and visiting his friends who did start Uni. This is still his home and will be for as long as he needs to, but I am loving how free he is and that he is getting independent. I don’t worry about him- his dad does, a lot. Haha.

28, racing motorbikes was/is expensive and addictive. The only way I could afford to keep racing was to stay at home.

My Auntie purchased a second house nearby, so I moved there. The rent was £15 a week.

My mother is still desperate to this day to get me back into their house. Even came up with the idea between her and my sister that I should move back "indefinitely" and apparently I don't have a say in the matter. I did have my say, told them a flat out no. All because I want to move from where I am. Needless to say, that's now been put on the back burner. If I went back to live with my parents at this point in my life, I really would have no life at all

I think you've meandered into the wrong thread. This is about when we all moved out of our childhood homes.

I was 19 and had my baby son. My parents didn't kick me out but I felt we needed our own space.

I'll never forget the first night cause it was close to Halloween, some young teen boys knocked on the door and I didn't have anything to give them cause I was in the middle of unpacking... So they put a bag full of piss through my letterbox I wanted to move back home right then
