I guess calling that Thai cave rescuer a "paedo" didn't invoke jealousy I just thought what a twat despite his success.

Why, they are both utterly different characters, just both happen to be ultra rich but they are nothing like each other.

But on the original topic, he's an absolute bell end abusing his privilege to foster his nonsensical opinions on us all like that are world changing facts. His recent BS on Russia would have been ignored by everyone if it was anyone else, instead you have Zelenski himself having to reply to tell everyone he's talking BS like he hasn't got better things to do.

Keeping it brief, as it would be very easy to write several essays, and keeping in solely on the topic of Russia as again, same:

He recently suggested as well publicised that they should just let the UN redo the referendums, and that Russia should leave it that was indeed the will of the people. Also, that Crimea should be formally recognised as being Russian. This is trying to legitimize pseudo-referendums by dictators that took place at gunpoint under conditions of persecution, mass executions and torture. Also, even I know that this is not a war being fought "for the people", just the territory the will of the people was to fight back not welcome them, it's obvious what it is, for Russia to leave.

He suggests that Crimea was always part of Russia, and provides a date for when that happened. That's the date Russia last annexed Crimea. We've nicked it before, so it's ours to steal now is not a strong argument. Also, pertinently, Russia didn't exist in 1783...neither did Ukraine...

Earlier this year, he challenged Putin to single combat with "the stakes being Ukraine". Not only is this clearly dumb, it's also massively egotistical that he things he can be some sort of heroic superhero single handedly righting wrongs. I know it was in heat, but also with the full knowledge that it would be taken seriously because he can abuse his public figure status to say reckless things others would be ignored for.

So basically, Musk weighing in on Russia/Ukraine since because he thinks he's got an angle the rest of of missed, when really he's just an expert in failed takeover attempts.

He's one of those people who are smart in one area of life, and then think they are smart in every area. He should stay in the small lane he is smart in, and leave the rest to people who are

smart in the other areas.

He seems a dick of human but has ideas and backing that puts him and his companies in global demand.

It'd be good if he realised the weaponising of his companies (starlink), had direct consequences for Tesla sales, Twitter usage and whatever other domination plans he has.

For clarity, Musk turned his satellites off that were helping Ukraine. The result of a Twitter poll about allowing Russia to keep invaded land - restoring peace.

It didn't go well even gaining favour by Russian elites.

Ukraine came back and said how about a poll about war crimes, reparations and complete withdrawal.

Starlink satellites have as a consequence not been working since, despite being in usage since early Feb.

The same satellite are being used to help the Iranian protests. He seems happy to get into conflict, just don't disagree with him or there'll be a denial of service even if lives depend on them.

I get that, people asked questions are ripe for having their answers taken out of context. But all the above is stuff he's put out on twitter setting his own context, not in response to an interview. These are his thoughts, not his answers. And they be dumb.

He entertains me -- but I'm fairly neutral.

I get why he says things that upset people -- he has aspergers and so do I -- so I get why people don't understand his point; our brain-wiring means we can be blunt and we don't always fill in the gaps properly to explain our reasoning.

This is why people are often left thinking "wtf?".

But things he says are not things he does.

The majority of things he does seem fine -- but not experiments on microchipping pigs, I don't like that at all.

It could go either way obviously. He could be the guy we need for innovation and ways to curb worldwide issues, but on the same coin, he could just be working for the elite and other wealthy people as the main issues of world hunger, and poverty hasn't been solved yet, but were building space rockets to go into space. Hmm? It's definitely a complex one.

I'm not sure his views on Russia are entirely dumb. If there were legitimate referendums that would be more sensible than the current approaches of killing people. Unfortunately highly unrealistic to happen.

Overall I think he represents the potentially scary consequences of capitalism and unrestricted personal wealth. We can only hope such people don't get crazy or very angry.

When a famous talking head disrupts a life or death situation with his saviour syndrome flights of fancy and publicly denies your expertise, I think you're welcome to tell him to stick it up his arse. When that person is the richest guy in the world bar a couple, and he then takes offence and calls you a pedo because he felt insulted, it's no longer a mitigating factor, to my mind.

In terms of tit for tat, several thousand people a day must tell Musk to go fuck himself every day on twatter and it doesn't;t impact him at all. When he tells the world someone is a pedo, that persons life can be utterly ruined.

Agree with the second bit but the first would be like Wales and Scotland voting to join the EU and the EU bombing us until their referenda were upheld.

Even if they were pre-war and legitimate, it would still be up to the sovereign nation to decide what happens and how it resolves its issues not if it cedes land to a country as a way to cease a maniac. Referendums are not usually yes/no/war level answers.

Even if they were pre-war and legitimate, it would still be up to the sovereign nation to decide what happens and how it resolves its issues not if it cedes land to a country as a way to cease a maniac. Referendums are not usually yes/no/war level answers.

Or Scotland doing what the Scottish leader is already planning. Nobody suggested bombs - that's already happening.

You said above his ideas on Russia-Ukraine weren't dumb. His views were to let Russia take annexed parts of Ukraine, and have them give up on taking back what previously taken - Crimea.

For him to do a 'run a country by Twitter Poll' (whilst having its civilians killed), he doesn't come across as the brightest star in the pack..

You quoted my actual quote but apparently still didn't read it

I said:

I'm not sure his views on Russia are entirely dumb.

Allowing people a vote on how they live is less dumb than encouraging people to kill people.

"

By saying they are not entirely dumb, you're saying they are not dumb. If they are dumb, say they are dumb but support the idea of legitimate referenda.

This could run into a fab who said what to whooom

So although Musk denies the conversation, Political Scientist and consultant for Vice, Ian Bremmer has written that Musk and Putin had a conversation just before Musk tweeted his peace poll.

Bremmer says Musk told him of Putin's ideals, which he delivered in his tweet. He said if these were not met there would be the possibility of nuclear weapons if Crimea was invaded.

As seen in the Guardian but it is rolling coverage so might be in an later article.

"I'm not sure his views on Russia are entirely dumb. If there were legitimate referendums that would be more sensible than the current approaches of killing people. Unfortunately highly unrealistic to happen.

Overall I think he represents the potentially scary consequences of capitalism and unrestricted personal wealth. We can only hope such people don't get crazy or very angry.

From the Guardian

"There's a lot more wild stuff in the full bremmer email: "musk also appeared concerned about more direct threats from putin. while he didn’t surface anything explicit with me, he did talk about russian cyber capabilities and russia’s potential to disrupt his satellites."

Personally I'm not a fan of his personality, but he HAS done much to further several areas of science and technology.
