Anyone ever used a chiropractor before?

I have booked an appointment to see one and see what they come up with as getting into see a doctor is a nightmare.

I think I have a trapped nerve in my neck and can’t tell if it’s intramuscular or skeletal. As pain is spreading all the way down my back and into my arms. And each day is different but it seems to stem from head movements and certain positions.

Has anyone else seen a chiropractor and did you get results?

Used one for my back who was great. It was expensive but it fixed the issue better than the physio I had. I did go to a second Chiro who had a completely different approach, from questioning to assessment and necessary sessions. If he would have been the first I'd seen I would have been put off.

I use one if my Sciatica plays up and gets unbearable. They don’t cure it but they shorten the amount of time I’m incapacitated with it which is a bloody relief.

They can show you stretches etc that may help with whatever issue you might have.

Yes, I had a few sessions with one before I was diagnosed with arthritis (approx 5 years ago) Whatever he did worked wonders in the short term. It wasn’t going to fix the problem but I wouldn’t hesitate to use one again if I need to

Not all that North of North London

I'd cancel it and find an osteopath or even a decent sports physio. Chiropractors are charlatans

Same here. Moved me about a bit and showed me some stretches. Needed 2 trips and it really helped. Not cheap, but worth it.

Thumbs up from me, 22 years ago I used to hit the gym hard, I started to find upper body was stiff and then struggled to get good deep breaths, after a scan they found nothing at the hospital. After advice to go seek another avenue the woman found I had 5 locked vertabrae and after an hour of manipulation and bone crunching I was perfect again apart from a day or two of soreness.

What are locked vertebrae?"

It's s a type of facet joint dislocation that results from jumping of the inferior articular process over the superior articular process of the vertebra below and becomes locked in the position. Can be one or both sides and shows up on xrays ...

Ouch! Is it preventable?

I’ve used one quite a few times in the past. Due to a past injury I occasionally suffer with severe SI joint pain. Used to try and fight through it or go the physio but used to take weeks to sort itself.

I then started going to the Chiro instead and now if I get a flare up I go and see them and a day or 2 later I’m fine again.

I think the charlatan comments come because some chiros claim they can fix everything with manipulation. Find a good one (usually one which has physios and masseurs as well) and you’ll be fine

I was just about to say exactly the same thing! Ha ha, I wouldn't have had a clue what it was exactly but know what a releif it was to have it fixed.

Keep your back strong and mobile ... they're a rare occurrence tbf easily spotted and painless manipulation to mobilise. Exercises after to help prevent reoccurring!

Saw one for a year, didn't really help. Private physio might be a better idea.

I’ve used an osteopath for over 20 years to help manage my ongoing knackered joints issues…never visited a chiropractor before so can’t comment on that, but definitely recommend an osteopath. Putting the joints back into the right places work wonders for fixing the cause of these kinds of issues…medication only treats the symptoms. I hope you get some relief.

I went to a physio recently, he was brilliant, not only did he sort out the issue, he showed me rehab exercises to prevent a reoccurrence.

See a proper doctor. Locked joints, skipped facets etc are terms they use but skipped facets normally need surgery to fix. It's all rubbish and at times dangerous.

Many times.

They find great pleasure in inflicting pain.

I always walked out feeling great and then woke up the next day in a whole new world of pain.

Well worth £40 a session

Yes, I spent several hundred pounds all to no avail. Two sessions with a sports physio fixed my trapped nerve. Never used a chiropractor again

I think physio would be better than a chiropractor for a trapped nerve

I used to see one for back pain and it worked amazingly until it stopped working

No.

Chiro practice is pseudo-science at the best, and dangerous spooky woo nonsense posing as medical science at the worst.

Just to clarify, that was sarcasm.

Fucking waste of money.

To the point that I’d actually call them con-men.

I'm not convinced by chiropractors. I visited one once about my hip and he told me he could fix it for £1200.

I went to my physio who referred me to a physio who specialised in women's hips. She sorted it for £40.

I had very similar, I was quoted almost a grand, finance deal available, they were even going to fix my colitis which was somehow linked to a traumatic back injury...

Utter fantasy.

It took a handful of sessions of physio to fix me.

Oh and the sales pitch, fucking hell that was scripted and designed to cause maximum panic

This! Apparently my hip was giving me grief because of a car accident I had when I was 16. It's not.

I always start with the physio first before moving on to chiropractor and acupunture.

What I thought was a nerve issue last year was my body being out of alignment, 2 locked vertebrae and a muscle knot in my bum. ( Damned Covid Zoom sitting down for too long.) yes the pain shot up my back, up to my neck and shoulder and down the back of my legs....So bad at one point I couldn't walk. Was on painkillers for three months.

Still twinges from time to time but now I can just use a massage roller to get rid of it now.
