The concept of "dessert"

Do you feel like your meal is complete until you've had a little something to round it off? Maybe a few biccies, a square of chocolate or a bag of crisps?

Personally, I don't I wonder where it comes from for people who have this shared trait? Maybe those "you can have ice cream if you eat all your broccoli" childhood moments?

I wonder at what point the concept of dessert started in history too. Like, doesn't it seem mad that people would just eat some meat and bread and veggies once or twice a day and then... That was it? I mean, I suppose it's not mad really. Just feels it.

(If you can't tell by now, I didn't have any dessert after my salad at dinner and now I feel lost.)

The bill finishes my meal!! Haha.

I don’t do desert in Resteraunts, I do like starters though. I’ve been known to order starters like it’s a tapas bar.

Yep. Have to finish with a whole cake, an entire tub of ice cream or a share (yeah, fuck off) bag of haribos.

Good job I have a fast metabolism.

Nah, I'm fine not finishing with a sweet.

I'm terrible at portion control, seconds, maybe having second dinner, supper?

I'm just greedy, basically. Thank god I've got the height to hide it. Kinda.

Eating a sweet course to end a meal has been around since sugar was widely cultivated. Perhaps a sign of luxury or wealth, or an energy rush after a big meal ?

Have not heard of crisps as a dessert!

I prefer a starter and a main. I struggle to finish a 3 course these days.

Yep, I definitely get snackish after my meal but got better at making that snack healthy like fruit and Greek yoghurt for example. No matter how full we think we are, we have a dessert stomach

I'm still coming to terms with someone only having one square of chocolate

Also, starters at restaurants are pointless. Greg Davies said it best: it's like going to the barbers, getting a trim and then saying "ok, now can you cut my hair please"
