Should non Christians celebrate Christmas?

After all Christmas was the birth of JC so effectively celebrating his birthday (and no it shouldn’t be a month long )

My family is split. Some of us are BAC’s and some are JWs (they don’t celebrate anything) while the rest of us party long into the night.

But should we? Those who do not go to church and worship JC should we celebrate it, and what would we do instead? It would certainly stave off the new year bankruptcy

Personally I can’t be arsed with it anymore, it’s a very much geared towards kids now, overwhelming them with thousands of pounds worth of presents only for them to break it on day two, or moan that it’s the wrong one/colour/brand etc…. Why can’t they just be happy with what they were given!

I don’t celebrate Halloween, I stay in, close my curtains and turn the buzzer off, so why Christmas?

I think for the purposes of Christmas, I'm a cultural Christian. I think about love, family, altruism, etc. Taking "the gift of Jesus" values and making it more universally applicable.

(I was raised in the church)

People can do what they like, I don't care, but that's what it is to me.

We love Halloween and Mr goes a bit OTT with decorations

Equally we love Christmas and it starts 1st December. We don’t celebrate it as a religious holiday but we do make it about our family.

I don't celebrate it at all, just enjoy a quiet day.

Best decision I ever made was ti no longer bother with it. As an atheist, like all religious events I respect it and encourage others to enjoy it (maybe mot fir 3 months, that's ridiculous) but it means nothing to me

A lot of things we do during the Christmas period, decorating trees and homes, gift giving , feasts, getting pissed with friends and family all have Pagan roots from times before Christianity became popular. .... so we do all the above activities

I think people regardless of their religious beliefs should celebrate it if they want to ,even if it's just to enjoy time with family,or time off work or whatever else they enjoy .If they don't want to that's fine as well.

I use to enjoy Christmas not so much in recent years. I work a lot of the Christmas time anyhow and have done most of my working life. Nowadays I enjoy the dinner if I'm off and spending some time with some of my family. We never go mad spending a fortune on presents I don't see the point.

I know lots of people who love Christmas time and I have never even thought of some of them oh they aren't religious so why should they celebrate. What others do doesn't bother me and I certainly wouldn't be annoyed because someone is enjoying themselves because they enjoy Christmas.Life is tough enough without begrudging people enjoyment and the joy it brings them.

If you enjoy it celebrate it and if not, then don’t. Simple really

We know it’s coming every year, plan ahead and don’t focus on the material things.

The time spent with family and friends, surrounded by fairy lights and Christmas trees is perfect. A few simple games, a Carole service and it’s just lovely. My favourite time of year without a doubt

We celebrate the family time. Enjoying the food and time spent together, we tend to buy for the children rather than the adults in our family. Not everyone spends thousands on their kids at Christmas though.

I celebrate Pagan Christmas when I decorate house/Xmas tree due to solstice and have my family together and exchange gifts and have other traditions when it comes to food, fertility, leaving bad behind etc what’s not done now while I live in UK.

Yes because I can do what I want to and Christmas isn’t just for Christian’s it’s for everyone who wants to celebrate it. I think the majority of people where I live celebrate Christmas and they are all faiths.

I think you will find that the Christmas tree wasn’t mentioned in the bible.

It more of a royal family Germanic origin

when I was a youngster me and my sister always enjoyed the night before Christmas and a sack of presents to look at next day how Santa ever got down the chimney remained a mystery but as time went on family get togethers at Christmas remained in place and to see the Christmas tree all decorated up and having Christmas dinner was still the norm for many years and still is hopefully children around the world will still be able to enjoy Christmas time like I did when I was a youngster Into the future but I think a pray should be given to those less fortunate than ourselves at such times.

Christmas can be anything people want it to be. My kids have never got thousands of pounds worth of presents and for them it's about other things and always has been. Decorating the house, music, a local cheap panto, baking some treats, Elf on the shelf when they were young. And spending time with family playing games. I like to see cities lit up with lights at the darkest time of the year.
