"Maybe the shops put the stuff out early each year to give people a chance to afford to purchase various bits of food/drinks/gifts/decorations/toys before December. So they can afford to have a lovely Christmas too? " I have no idea why they do it as I don’t work in retail …..

"I think it doesn't help with making Christmas this massive thing that must be photo perfect. And I think it puts pressure on people especially at the moment with everything as it is. Should be about spending time with those you love. " Agreed. After a couple of years of severely disrupted Christmases, I plan to wind it back permanently. There's just no need.

"No, I don't think it's too early. Retail seasons have always run slightly earlier, it's just the way it works. I don't like the fact Halloween seems to get more scaled back each year though, some places have the smallest amount of stock in August and some don't stock any Halloween stuff at all Pxx" Exactly… stock the stuff for what’s happening next ….

"I work in retail. Christmas for us is one of the most profitable periods in the year. Our Christmas department is being opened to the public today, I'm looking forward to finding out how much we take today. I remember one Sat last year we took 22k, just in that department. It was bonkers. We've had a few bits out over the last 4-6 weeks, calendars, diarys that sort of thing. They've gone and been restocked twice. People are definitely shopping early this year. " All about the money

Peace, goodwill, love for those closest to us - that's extremely important to me. And having spent two Christmases on my own, I'm leaning into that more in future, and keeping my wallet shut.

"No I don't. Some people find it easier to spread the cost or want to get in the festive spirit earlier and that's understandable. It's been a tough year for many and if it brings someone cheer I'm all for it. I'm with JAG and her love for it - can't wait to start gathering for wreath building. Cosy snuggly jumpers and scarves donned for night walks to see twinkling lights of cheer. The welcoming smell of delicious food and drink. The joy of seeing loved ones and friends, celebrating being with them. Big blankets and Elf. Nightmare Before Christmas. GREMLINS (deserves caps). Even the carols at this time of year make me smile, I'm going to dust off and rosin up my bow and learn a new piece for Christmas Eve. Love it all. " You do realise I was talking about the stuff in shops not actually Christmas and all its joys? If you bought it now would it be put up? Or out? Will your Xmas lights be shining anytime soon? Is the tree up yet? the cost spreading was mentioned early on so I took understanding from that

"I don't care how you all celebrate Christmas but I wish you happiness, health and good fortune for whatever you do all year round Fuck Hallowe'en though. What a crock of shit." I’m Confused…. One group of peoples celebration for spreading joy is accepted … but the other type of joy spreading by costume wearing … bringing adults & children together to share an evening of laughs / treats. / playful tricks.. neighbourhood collectiveness… interacting with those you may not with all the time… that’s a crock of shit

I'm not ashamed to admit I did pick up a present for someone this week because I saw it and knew she'd love it. I guess I don't see the point in Humbugging someone else's joy. Yep, falling back on that fallacy.

"I’m a real bah humbug but I actually think this year it’s a good thing. Money will be tight for many so spreading the cost will help a lot of people to be able to budget for it. I think Christmas for many will be dramatically toned down this year" Wait.. what.. Your xmas decorations are shamazing!!
