Morning Fabbers

I'll be in Liverpool for a few days soon, and need to entertain myself during the day (evenings are sorted). What are the must do things and must see places?

I'm a Beatles fan, but online I can see there is a Beatles Story and a Beatles Museum - are both worth a visit?

The Cathedral is definitely on my list to see.

Any quirky little boutiques or curio shops to look round? Recommendations for somewhere to enjoy a cuppa and people watch? Any places to avoid?

So many beautiful place in Liverpool, if you can get to Palm House (about two miles out of the city), in Sefton Park,its very beautiful.

Beatles story ironically I have never been.

"On me, oh my" roof top bar sells coffee too and has stunning views. And of course the Albert Dock lots of places to sit, eat and chat.

Last I would take a trip to the Tate gallery (Albert Dock).

I find Beatles City Expensive.

For a free day out .....

Do Anglican Cathedral

Catholic Cathedral

Tate Gallery

Walker Art Gallery

World Museum

The Museum of Liverpool

Albert Dock

China Town

and a short bus ride to Lark Lane

in town there are so many interesting streets School Lane with the Bluecoats School and Bold St.

I avoid Liverpool One but give it a go if you are a shopper.

That's all FREE.

Spend a couple of quid on a saver ticket and take the ferry and the trains and buses all day long.

As per above with a visit to the Albert Dock.

As part of a coach trip to Liverpool, we had a guided tour to the old cathedral. It was interesting to find out the costs and how it was built, a bit at a time.

You could visit Anfield and pay homage to the greatest footie team in the land.

Liverpool imho is one of the most friendly and fun cities in the country.

There are so many excellent independent coffee shops and bars but I will always go to a wetherspoons cos it's £1.25 and I can refill.....

Why spend more.

I’d recommend the magical mystery tour or one similar. That will take you around the city to all the Beatles attractions.

Castle street is always a great spot for some food and there are plenty of shops nearby

Too right. If it's a coffee experience I want then yes a nice coffee bar but Wetherspoons is also my free loo trip .....

Check out Cafe Tabac on Bold St for a coffee break. Very cool little place, but not self-consciously so. One of my favourite hangouts when at uni there in the 90s, and have always loved our occasional visits since. M

Echo all of the above, the Ropeworks area is good for a night out and central.

If you like atmospheric pubs then the Philamonic is a gem.

My recommendations would be the three graces (includes the Liver building), the Albert Docks and the Anglican cathedral (we're greedy and have two). The cemetery park of the Cathedral is also amazing as it's in an old quarry sunk down into the ground so the views up the cathedral from down there are phenomenal. I also recommend spotting Queen Victoria's willy on the statue by the court house

The Beatles stuff is pretty good if you like the Beatles as well as the Cavern Club and The Jacaranda.

There's some quirky shops down Bold Street but in my opinion the best place for that would be Lark Lane if you fancy a little trip 15 minutes out of town. The whole street is full of independent shops and restaurants/bars.

For coffee in the city centre I would recommend Bold Street Coffee. If you prefer tea there is also Leaf on Bold Street with an enormous menu of loose leaf teas. Rococo on Lord Street is also really cute.

I have no additional places to visit advice. I would say pull doors when it says pull. Don't push. Also visit Panoramic! Even if for one drink. Book in advance though so you get the sunset view, it's beautiful.

Go to Sefton Park, it’s a beautiful place especially on a sunny Sunday. Then after wandering around head over to Lark Lane, plenty of cafes and bars serving good food and drinks.

The Beatles museum is brilliant and worth every penny. I also used public transport and visited Penny Lane.

I don't know if it still exists, but there is event where they hold a Peaky Blinders night and everyone dresses up.

You must visit the Cavan club.

Woolton Village is worth a look around. Beatles story started there. Eleanor Rugby’s grave is at St Peters church. Also that’s the church hall where John and Paul met.

Nobody has mentioned the Philharmonic Dining Rooms halfway on Hope Street between the cathdrals. Most ornate pub, ask to see the Gents!

I used to go there a lot too.

Lark lane has a lot of excellent independent cafes and places to eat also.

Granny crumpet gave an excellent lowdown of museums and places near the docks & cathedrals - the anglican one is bloody stunning inside.

Finally, for another extraordinary pub try Peter Kavanaghs up by the Anglican. Called Georgian Quarter now, was a lot different when I was a kid.

Enjoy Liverpool, if you don't you must be dead or a Manc.

The Beatles stuff is pretty good if you like the Beatles as well as the Cavern Club and The Jacaranda.

I second the Lark Lane recommendation as I used to live there. So full of character and right next to Sefton Park and the palm house.

Think all the suggestions are good.

We did a bit of a wander around last month with friends and had a great time.

Maybe try getting a cab to the Philharmonic Pub or Hall, nice to wander around the Georgian quarter and then just walk downhill, through all the shops and take a look at the side roads. Eventually you'll reach the seafront and Albert Dock.

Not too sure how much time you have but as a bit of an excursion jump on the train to Chester, there are so many things to do.

We take several pies home to pop in the freezer.
