Wrong sort of cold

Sorry this is going to be a rant. Why can the trains in this country not work properly, the new excuse today is it is too cold and there is ice on the line.

Shock surprise it is icy in December! This does not bode well for the rest of the winter.

Much preferable to enjoy Christmas dinner with all the trimmings than to die in a train wreck cos someone decided it was ok to keep the trains running in appalling weather conditions. It's an old network and unfortunately we don't have heated rails.

Yes agree that we should not travel if it is dangerous but it isn't that cold today, the forecast has said it will be cold so why are we not better prepared? If the answer is there is nothing they could have done then is it going to be a case of no trains for the next 3 months?

Not your fault but sorry our reliance of excuses just winds me up.

Last year my train ran slow due to a frozen horn one morning, and iceicles hanging off the bridges shorting out the power an other...

You are right, in this day and age we should be able to circumvent the excuses that bad weather causes. Unfortunately though, we are left with an ageing network.

The upshot is though that ice, and leaves on the line can interfere or cut the signals from the rails that inform the control rooms of exactly where trains are. Safety has to come first, surely?

In the culture we live in at the moment, we are all too happy to complain in situations like this - but if we are on a train that crashes in conditions like this, most people would want the head of the person who runs network rail on a stick!
