"Seen lots of driving posts or car posts so another one to add to the mix. Does anyone here not drive? I’m sure this will be a short thread I’m 40 and still can’t drive. A combination of reasons. I haven’t really been able to afford to continue learning until now and when I did have a few lessons way back in my 20’s, I really struggled with it, and was a nervous learner. If I decide to take it up again I think I’m definitely going down the auto route. " Same with me, though I started at 40 but due to a few reason I stopped. I think my problem was when he said you are nearly ready for your test it spooked me

" Yes I’ve had no problems travelling, train or coach has been fine. I can’t just go at the drop of a hat but always managed to go where I want to. And locally it’s bus or Uber and I work within walking distance and do my food shopping online so not really an issue. It would be nice to learn though I think. Just need to kick myself up the butt and try again.

If I get a job with more money then I may consider taking driving lessons one day x

"We're both 38 and neither of us has ever had a driving lesson. We cycle as a family. We use buses, trains and occasionally taxis. Travel does have to be well planned, but it's not onerous. Some places are difficult to get to, but we manage. I credit our non driving as the main reason we've always had enough money despite not having amazing jobs, and were able to pay off the mortgage after 8 1/2 years. It's not for everyone, but it suits us " Wow that’s amazing regards the mortgage. Not something I’ll ever be able to afford unfortunately as a single income now house prices are too expensive for me. I’m sure not driving definitely saves a lot of money though. And now you’re mortgage free you may be able to afford to learn now but as you’ve said you’ve managed not driving so far.

"I can drive but have been happiest and healthiest when I was car free. " I do have a car and I can drive and driven since I was 17… but I so don’t fancy driving any more - especially in London… I’ve always preferred walking… in London so use the tube and took up cycling… trouble is… I’m lumbered with a car till next September and i pay 400 a month (but of a waste that)
