Actually, no. Though what really happened is that news of David Bowie's death spread through the Big Brother House in early 2016, where Gest was one of the housemates - as was Angie Bowie, David Bowie's ex-wife. On hearing that "David's dead", some housemates instantly thought it referred to Gest, and not Bowie.

Ironically, David Gest was found dead in his hotel room in East London three months after the Big Brother mix-up, apparently from a stroke.
