Just needed to destress so thought I'd come post on my favourite site

My boss just sent an email round changing the way everyone's workloads look however it is the most time consuming inefficient way of working. This has led me to tell said boss he's incompetent and that I wouldn't be changing!!

Bad career move?? Lol

did you ask him to explain his rationale for the change... anyone putting 'change' out there should take people with them and that is easier if they explain 'why'

Be careful you don't find out the hard way that nobody is bigger than the company !

Oops I hope I'd doesn't mean p45 but number 1 rule I've found out in business is that no one is indispensable.

In my ever irrational opposition of change at work I did not. However I have just emailed him and his response is I think it's better this way!!

I had a member of staff with that attitude recently, I made the mistake of only sending one person on a short course for a new tempering machine....as a result he started suffering from 'swollen head syndrome' and started to dictate the pace...

I got rid of him and suffered the expense of sending two others on the same expensive course....neither of whom now think they are indispensible.

As I'm a criminal psychologist I'm a rarity, so I'm afforded certain outbursts. Not many people can do my job luckily. But I know what everyone is saying about not being indispensable and on the most I'd agree.

However a good vent is sometimes needed

Well, I wasn't going to come back into the forums until the New Year, but just couldn't resist with this one....

Here we go then.......

You have just played right into your bosses hands, haven't you. When I was in his position (hard to believe I was once...) whenever I had to impose change, I just sat back and waited for the first member of my staff to give me the 'Golden Out' for when the change didn't work as anticipated, and could - thanks to insisting they put their 'beef' in writing, just like YOU have - blame the lack of improvement on my 'team' being un-cooperative and site the written moan (or email....) as proof of their lack of 'being on board' with it.

If you think you're in a better position than your boss to decide what is the 'better way', then put it in writing and go to his boss with it... Other than that, next time I would keep my own counsel and bide my time until said 'incompetent boss' falls on his own sword....

Pork (Oh, hang on - I'm 'Hog Roast' for the festive yuletide aren't I... )

PS. Hope you haven't put it in writing that he's 'incompetent'.... or you could have a nasty little law suit coming your way....

'The Hog'

If you were better than your boss at his job then you'd be his boss doing his job. You are not, and so the chain of command kicks in and he if says, "work this way," you work his way. He's the boss.

you could of tried the mature way and approached ur boss and put over ur concerns calmly..

im sure the changes affect more than just u in the company?

ur boss will take more notice of alot fo people airing concern over the changes than one guy having a rant.

Yeah hello Pork hog roast

Nice to see you...,

Anyway OP I agree with the above, shouting in any circumstance is not acceptable and calling your boss incompetent is also a very bad move.

If you were a member of my staff you would have had your P45 already printed out

I would start grovelling if I was you

No one regardless of the job is bigger than the company and is always replaceable.

Sounds like a bad boss, we engage everyone when we make changes like that. A good manager can also take criticism on the chin, I would as long as it was done on a one to one basis. Had you done it on the floor in front of everyone I would have a word but that's it

I run a building firm and even tho its not an ideal way to do things I'd happily sack everyone and start afresh with new labour if it meant ing out the rot

No1 is bigger than the firm not even me.

there is taking critism on the chin and there there is having an employee acting like a child and shouting and ranting..

critism can be given in a clam manor and will always be more respected that way

For the first five years after I became a 'people manager' I used to try to manage my staff in the way you describe. It was a complete failure

Then I realised something.... I was made the Boss for a reason.... and my staff had to get that in their heads too. Then I started to behave like their boss and not their social worker.

Once I realised that, I started to become a much better manager and had a much more enthusiastic team who actually got the job done. AND.. who got rewarded for it.
