"Jeeze another royal is pregnant and i truly wish them well but as a country we are broke and bar queen and hubby the rest should not receive one penny of public money. We have folk who cannot afford to heat their homes yet royals take money they do not earn and bleed us dry. Am not totally anti royal as think having a figure head is good but thats as far as it goes."

"Bearing in mind that the future King of Great Britain's wife is pregnant with the next monarch after him I think it is prefectly reasonable that they receive money from the public purse. If you were talking about his 7th cousin on his mum's pet cat's side thrice removed then I'd say you have a point. Well done Wills & Kate, best news I've heard all day. "

"I object more to my taxes paying towards chavs who churn out more and more sprogs with gay abandon and expect the taxpayer (me) to feed, house and clothe them " A group of pals, mostly middle aged single men, were chatting about this in the pub and one suggestion was that Child Benefit should be limited to the first x number of kids (x would be decided by projected population requirements) and after that number you'd get no more financial support. A popular variation would be that, if x were 2, once you had a third child, you'd lost the Child Benefit you get for the second child and, if you have a fourth child, you lose the Child Benefit you get for the first kid.

P.S: I heard from a pal that a friend of his was once fishing a stretch of river that apparently belonged to a local 'aristocrat'. The 'Lord' (!) himself caught him at it and told him in no uncertain terms that he was not allowed to do this as this was 'his' bit of river. When the man questioned him about what he meant by this he said "Because my ancestors fought to own this piece of land" "OK" replied the guy, putting up his fists....I'll fight you for it now then.... I fail to see the logic in that scheme. Why not have a system whereby you get child benefit for the first two and then no more. Taking money away from an extra mouth to feed is counter productive but limiting cash to the first two will make some parents think about whether they can really afford as many children as they would like. Of course, there are those who wouldn't give a shit and would keep churning them out regardless.

It is just a great part of Britishness for me. unfortunately , with that comes power , money, greed....born to have a dignified status before uve even opened ur eyes...sorta smacks the equality of being human.I totally get that... although I would say that the moment you are born you are no longer equal anyway. It then so depends on which family you were fortunate enough to be born into and that is just for starters. Everything else after kind of escalates your privileged or less privileged status, dont you think? We are all equal - just some are more equal than others. " Agree...sorry, but perhaps people who feel we need other folks to have sych rights by birth, for no logical reason, really should get some therapy.,....! There! I've said it!lol

"One more useless, parasitic and, if the genes are anything to go by, fairly dim mouth to feed from my taxes. The French and the Russians in their time had the right idea about dealing with royals and all their like. XX dont you have to be quite clever to be a pilot??? the monarchy arent going anywhere soon so if you dont like it you know what you can do " The United Kingdom and the commonwealth would be a very different entity where it not for the monarchy. Most nations look at the rich history we have with envy ( some good, some not so good ) and our evolution into the entity we are. There are very few places in the world where people aspire to live, with the freedoms afforded here in an unperfect society that welcomes tolerance. Our Royals have overseen ( being a political ) in the the last 100 years huge changes in the world, however Britain ( maybe it's our island status ) has largely held onto it's identity and stability. They are here to stay and with the news of the newest arrival means that contiuity will continue. Two people in love, having a child? Good luck to them.

"So....the Royal Family apparantley costs me around 60p a year in tax, I wonder how much the career 'bottom feeders' cost me in tax contributions? The single mums that have never worked, yet have expensive mobile phone contracts with the latest phones, have Sky subscriptions, push their child around in a £500 buggy et all et all.. I'm guessing a bit more than the 60p a year I contribute to the Royal Family?" I never thought I would say this, but I agree with you

Incidentally....how much do I pay in tax to subsidise Northern Ireland every year?.....I am guessing a fair bit more than 60p. Could you mail that back to me by registered post please?

Also I didn't notice any of the anti royals say " If I inherited a country house and a few million I'd give it all, it's not right that I should keep it because of luck of birth." And..... I disagree there are a lot of people I consider below me and a fair few above me.... Just take a walk down your local high street and look at some of the people.... Do you really consider them your equal?" everyone is equal to me..biologically...they might not be socially or 'IQ' equal..but there is NOTHING anyone can argue for that promotes one bloodline above another. as for the social aspects of society etc etc..I think people think far too black and white.. they complain about the scroungers..for all intesnse purposes can anyone imagine what would happen when benefits are cut more drastically?-Oh...would that be higher crime rates?..Oh...fuck..we have less police dont we? Everyone should fuck off to other countries when they dont like rthe aspects of 'britishness'-such as the royal family...well thats good news isnt it..they wont complain at the foreigners left now will they. Theres TONNES of sustainable jobs out there isnt there...that will still be around in the next 50 years.. We dont like the fatcats of big companies ie banks, shafting all of us with big paychecks etc etc..however are quite glad to be giving that 60p away a year to someone people who gain automatic right to it from birth...despite already having a vast amount of the sterling stuff already. The Royals have become nothing more than entertainment celebrities really..thats fine...just dont dress them up as anything else I would say...much in the way footballers get dressed up(u know what I mean lol),with HUGE pay packets for kicking a ball around.

"Severe sickness doesn't mean twins, purely an old wives tale. I LOVE the Royals. What the Queen has done for our country is amazing. Wills and Kate have made the royal family "modern" along with Prince Harry and they do a great job. He earns his own wage. I wish them all the luck in the world, and think its fantastic news. If she does have a nanny so what? My friend has a nanny for her 2 children. The point being????" I keep reading about how he earns his own wage well can you tell me how a helicopter pilot can afford 175k for a one way ticket from wherever it was back to the UK oh thats right he didnt we did. Because it's not just the Royals they are having a pop at, it is the way of life in this country that the overwhelming majority are in support of. We have a constitutional monarch and that's the way most of us like it. If someone doesn't like that then they can vote with their feet and go and live in France, or Germany, or Italy (although I believe those countries still have Dukes etc). Having a go at the Royals is having a go at everyone who prefers to live in a country that wants a Royal Family. Too many people moan about the way things are instead of doing something about it. Like leaving.

D o they have special right and powers? No? I thought not There are other ways to change the status quo. What happens when the day comes,as it surely will, sooner or later when the majority of people don't support the royals? I'm pretty ambivalent towards the royals and I don't give a toss about how much they cost. As some have said, whatever we replace them with will cost just as much. They're missing the point. It's not the cost they object to,It's the 1000 years of hereditary privilege achieved by war, murder, insurrection and spurious claims that they find outdated. To clarify,I am not anti-royal,I just believe that the belong in another age

Everything you are lucky enough to enjoy in this democratic country has for the most part become available to you through someone else giving their life! There isn't a single person who moans and groans who wouldn't change places if they could. It's not as if your day today activities are governed by them. Society will always continue to evolve but I truly hope we never loose this particular institution because if we should we'd be a lot poorer for it. It's what goes towards making Britain great and most of us proud of our nation. Especially the foreign interest in our history. Don't forget it's a massive industry in its own right. We know that some of the old rules such as succession need to be revised and they will be to keep pace. I just despair why so many are frightened by royalty. Some of you have no idea just how much pleasure and pride is gained by voluntary services when they are awarded the Queens award. Still I suppose you're entitled to your strange opinions and if you'd like to live without a royal take a trip across the pond and enjoy freedom to bare arms and every other freedom they have. The only problem you'll have then is the madness that ensues when they visit. lol

"Couldn't even bring myself to read any more posts after going about a third of the way down I was totally disgusted I'm not a fan of the monarchy I had this discussion with my three kids this afternoon about the monarchy what it means to the country the costs we incur about history democracy the government the tourism the difference between our royal family and that of elsewhere in the world the reasons for and those against maintaining this part of our heritage and you know what my 6,8,10 year old kids were able to compile better arguments for and against it and their opinion of the news so this baby is a special baby then and I replied no more than any of you but because of who the baby will become when it's born it feels a part of all of us I love babies everyone's babies no matter where you're from your background your beliefs religion race whatever there's is nothing more amazing or innocent than a baby As parents they are like any other they're just hoping and praying for a healthy baby and hoping they're going to be good parents and always do right by their child, having all or no money in the world can't ever change the hopes fears dreams and expectations you will have, I wonder how many of you who are posting negative responses know what it's like to hold a newborn baby knowing that this little bundle if innocence is totally reliant on you, and how many of you understand the heartache if losing a child and know all the money in the world couldn't ever replace a baby lost whether that baby is born or not, I for one am sending out my love and hoping mum and baby get better soon and things start to pick up and congratulate them on their news Well YOU pay for it then, I don't want to." Well I don't wont to pay for your health care but I do!

"It's quite worrying how many forelock tuggers still exist in the 21st century. I can't believe that so many people are happy with so few having so much, when so many have so little. The royals money has come from centuries of opression, invasion, theft, and most importantly, the deaths of many of your and my ancestors. Could a forelock tugger answer me this - which of your loved ones over history would you choose to die, so that a royal could wipe his/her arse on gold-leaf toilet paper? never tugged a fore or any other lock to anyone.. have served the country and sworn allegience to the head of state, but deem nyself and mine to be a citizen not a subject.. not a fan of hereditay priveledge in any way shape or form but we are what we are, we have a monarchy with all that goes with that.. unless your going to back up your rhetoric by raising arms or democratic mandate then its all a bit shouty shouty tbh.. would you if you had the chance crush the childs skull if you feel so strongly, methinks not.. more of your and my long dead relatives were killed by other causes, unless King or Queen whomever caused the black death or other plagues.. yes we should look at history and hopefully not make the same mistakes, but change now what you can actually effect rather than live in dreamsville.. "One more useless, parasitic and, if the genes are anything to go by, fairly dim mouth to feed from my taxes. The French and the Russians in their time had the right idea about dealing with royals and all their like. XX dont you have to be quite clever to be a pilot??? the monarchy arent going anywhere soon so if you dont like it you know what you can do The United Kingdom and the commonwealth would be a very different entity where it not for the monarchy. " Here here!

"..... A president would need a residence or two and would cost more than the Royals do now to keep in office because most of the costs of the Royals are borne by the Royals private incomes! " By that 'logic' we should tolerate pimps on the grounds 'most of the costs of the Pimps are borne by the Pimps private incomes!
