The world learned to text.

Do you have a stand-out memorable text?

Do you still text or have you moved to other media?

I love texting and took to that like the proverbial duck to water so much so that I am as fast my children. I like texts as they are not as intrusive as phone calls, the message is there in black and white to re read later and to respond to in your own time.

Sad face and embarrassed face so far. Where's the text that made you smile?

I went all melty when a man I love sent me a text that thanked me for being me. I decided to clear out all of my texts today, including that one. The only one I couldn't bring myself to get rid of is the one from my nephew that just says "love you x".

I know, I'm being soppy on a sex site!

My most memorable text was from Dad when he was going down for his surgery. The one that diagnosed everything. He said, "Going down now. I love you X x x x" he always put 4 kisses in texts to me. It was sent from the phone I have now. Special text from a special man.

I was waiting for one of those. I hope you won your case for no other reason than that was poor management on their part.

That's a good result for the cost of a text.

My partner had bought us mobile phones because his dad was really ill and he wanted the hospital to be able to contact him quickly.

My first text from him was "hello at the hospital, testing this things working" Then an hour later I got a text from him saying his dad had died.

Sickness, birth and death notifications just seem so normal now. During my friend's illness it was a group text after every chemo session and visit to the consultant. When he died I ended up sending a text to his son to try and get him back to the hospital as he had just nipped out for a sandwich. I couldn't get him to answer the phone but knew a text would catch up as soon as he could get a signal again.

Happy birthday. I'd send you a text if I had your number but this will have to suffice. Have a good day.

My best text was when my ex (who was an ex by then but we're still great friends) text me a whole book. He used to read it to me when I was struggling in life, and it always helps to put things into perspective

You can't text? Surely its just like typing but on a phone, which you definitely seem to have the hang of going by your massive profile.

Signal reception was always a bit iffy before the advent of the digital mobile.

20 years? wasn't telex the fore runner of SMS, and also IM, well the concept of instant messaging through telex at least? I remember the BT Cheetah with its integral screen and being able to conduct real time conversations through key board input with anyone else that had a telex number and a machine.

I remember telex too but I don't remember it feeling like real time conversations. Possibly because if I made a mistake I would have to start the whole communication again before pressing send.

I was never a fan of text messages until I got a smart phone and they introduced the concept of conversations as opposed to just having a list of text messages sorted by order I'd received them.

Same here it makes far more sense having a conversational string.

I didn't use it. It was 20 years ago that Vodaphone sent the first test text. It said "Merry Christmas". The person who sent it was on the News earlier today.

Initially it was send only, I believe from a fixed sending point. The recipient couldn't reply.
