couple, us we him her.

I'm no expert,but really want a nice pair of smart trousers.

Ive recently been in a few shops trying different ones on and frankly non look "smart"

Any advice as to style and retailer for someone who wear's crappy scruffy workman clothing for work but likes to look good when the situation calls for it.

If it helps I'm in my 50's and a bit heavy but not huge.

No beer gut.

Next is a good shout. You have hundreds of options, different brands, great range of prices. Could you buy three or four pairs and then return them? I find Next brilliant for quick returns, refunds etc.

I quite like slim fit trousers on men. I think they have a formal trouser section on the website.

Not sure where you are but pegs or pleated trousers never go out of fashion for men especially us older gents. There's a slaters in Chelmsford. Good place to start

All my nicest trousers are various brands/designers/make and have come from the same place: TKMaxx. Don’t use the store though, awful jumble sale it is, buy online and only ever go into store for the inevitable returns. I’ve has some real bargains, and get loads in a size 33 that’s hard to get in a high street. My best win was a really nice set of Ralph Lauren chinos for under £30. Seriously, try the website

Also one of the *very* few places you can get socks in S/M/L rather than S/M or M/L, it’s a goldmine for nonstandard sizing…

Good if you want to look Italian. I prefer a traditional British cut myself, but it’s not cheap.
