I don't agree that rows are a glute exercise, can you please explain the science behind this other than you did them and got a nice arse because correlation might not equal causation there.

Logic dictates this is a load of shit haha, other than obvious weight gain I see no change in shape or definition in the glutes in the pic, but I too would like to know how using your arms to move a weight with no knee flexion, has built glutes

I really don't think bent over rows are the sole reason for you building your glutes though as it doesn't work the glutes at all. Maybe something about your workout changed that allowed them to develop as a by product if you added bent over rows, but I wouldn't give this exercise to someone wanted to get a better bum.

It's not just squats though that can build glutes. But it's definitely not the bent over rows either because you only squeeze your glutes to stablise yourself during the exercise, the same as when you do a standing overhead press but I'm not not going to tell the OP an overhead press to build their glutes.

You should take up powerlifting in that case, if you’re 5foot6 as you say, I’d put you at maybe 70kgs body weight so, your row is almost 30kgs or 30% heavy than the world record for someone of the weight class you’d be put in

I noticed a difference when I was doing weighted barbell lifts. I think that's what they were anyway. I never noticed a difference with regular squats but I probably wasn't pushing hard enough, or maybe not adding enough weights?

I'm way too lazy to keep it up though.

"The science it’s there left 2018 right 2022

And it’s not as if I wasn’t working out in 2018 as I was

But it is the year that I add in barbells rows to my workout

As sed I don’t squat as you can tell that with my legs

Worked for me someone asked so I sed what worked for me

I really don't think bent over rows are the sole reason for you building your glutes though as it doesn't work the glutes at all. Maybe something about your workout changed that allowed them to develop as a by product if you added bent over rows, but I wouldn't give this exercise to someone wanted to get a better bum.

Tell me then what was it as I do not squat I repeat I do not squats

Well it must have been all those pull ups then

It's not just squats though that can build glutes. But it's definitely not the bent over rows either because you only squeeze your glutes to stablise yourself during the exercise, the same as when you do a standing overhead press but I'm not not going to tell the OP an overhead press to build their glutes.

Preacher curls to build my calves, where’s the science you ask, a guy in a dress said so I answer hahaha

I probably row what you close to dead

I row 110kg

You should take up powerlifting in that case, if you’re 5foot6 as you say, I’d put you at maybe 70kgs body weight so, your row is almost 30kgs or 30% heavy than the world record for someone of the weight class you’d be put in

180 odd why would I want to powerlift

When I sit whare I do mma media at the highest levels

I make ranking changes

I make matches

I give people bonuses

Nope but the fact that you haven’t picked up on my spelling tells me your not in that world as I have a very unique way off spelling and saying things

So if you not twigged to that then I know your not in that world deep as if you were you would have realised who you were talking to

"I noticed a difference when I was doing weighted barbell lifts. I think that's what they were anyway. I never noticed a difference with regular squats but I probably wasn't pushing hard enough, or maybe not adding enough weights?

I'm way too lazy to keep it up though. "

Could be ankle related, if you put a wedge under each heel you’ll naturally squat deeper and will feel it in your glutes a lot more, maybe look at your stance Might need to be wider/ narrower depending on your hips

Squats, steps, lunges and leg presses are the big ones honestly

Cycling and running can help to buy not really glute focused, moreso just helping with overall leg shaping

Oh crumbs!

Having a nice bum? I guess it all depends what you like in a bum. Rachael primarily uses the gym to keep her body shape good and to keep weight off, but sometimes I think she over does it and her bum goes too skinny. I prefer a nice round bum.

I do a lot of hill walking and I guess that helps a lot!

The muscles a bent over barbell row targets are - the latissimus dorsi (the large wing-like muscles in your back),

the middle and lower trapezius,

the rhomboids,

and the posterior deltoids.

In terms of glutes,

Squats

Lunges

Bridges

Deadlifts

Hip thrusts

Donkey kicks/fire hydrant style leg lifts

And there are modifications you can make to each - sumo squats/Bulgarian split squats for example. Weights, kettle bells, an exercise band or booty band all intensify the benefits.

Peachy indeed. Well if you need anyone to check, I’m happy to come and hold your glutes firmly to check they are tensing and flexing! I can then report back to fab to confirm!

"Bend over barbell rows"

Similar to the shambles up earlier in the thread, theyre not going to work your ass. A row by its very nature is a pull movement, so targets back and biceps, at a basic level.

Unless youre referring to a deadlift, which will hit the lower body as well as back

Constantly tensing the arse cheeks works the muscles. I tend to do it a lot throughout the day ( without realising I’m doing it) I’m told I have a good bum so must work lol

thanks all for input. and long pointless argument :D

familiar with most of the moves, my work takes care of a lot of functional strength,, not a gym 'look' but core, back, shoulders, arms. tho i spend a lot of time in my feet and lugging stuff none of it seems to get into my legs or butt.

but, tired after work, get bored with rep exercise, so totally into the simplest, faff-less, time efficient moves.
