Ok completely off topic from normal kinky things. We have a 14 month old puppy, who is driving us crazy. He’s a lovely dog but is causing daily issues. He still chews furniture and has destroyed a kitchen plus £3K Welsh dresser. He still ?? on a regular basis in the kitchen even though he gets 5 miles a day and quality food and has a routine on an evening. I know dog trainers out there but think there must be easy cheaper ways. Serious answers only please

If anything you could have sourced off the internet hasn't worked already then I'd consider paying a professional as the cheap option rather than losing another 3k piece or furniture

Puppy training classes? Vets sometimes run them and they're cheaper than individual training although the amount of damage already caused it might be worth the investment

Some breeds which are working dogs can get bored and frustrated if they dont get enough mental as well as physical exercise.

This can manifest itself as destructive behaviour.

Are you playing with him to mentally stimulate him? They need physical and mental stimulation. Try popping a treat under some cups and moving them around, scattering treats for him to sniff and find.

Dogs trust do training activities. Dog training will mentally stimulate as well as working on any issues and might recommend a behaviourist if needed.

Get a toy water gun and squirt him every time he does it... Saying the word 'no' firmly, once.

Eventually the sound of the water being sloshed should be enough to deter him

as someone has already suggested find a club or forum for your breed speak to other who know the breed othe dog breed will not answer your questions ..

we've alway had bully breeds well known for chewing but never had any chewed furniture for us its raw treats they can chew things like pigs ears cow ears very low in fat and we have 2 big toy boxs in the house they are full and get replaced at birthdays and xmas making it fun ..... treat toys are also very good yes dog toys can be expensive in the 2 boxe porobly best par of £500 but it works and £500 is nothing compared to say a £3,000 piece of furniture

How often do you feed him?

He might benefit from 2 or 3 smaller meals, Weimeraners are famously food obsessed and a breeder I knew fed them twice a day, not once.

How much time is he in human company for, on a weekday?

He gets 2 measured meals a day at regular times. He spends plenty of time with us. Probably 8hrs a day he had worn us

Thats good, perhaps get his brain busy with feeding puzzles then, plus plenty of toys that he Is allowed to chew, he is probably teething x

Make up a paste with a little chilli powder and water, rub a tiny amount on where he chews, he'll soon stop, I had a rottie that was a chewer when he was a puppy, soon realised it wasn't tasty

Dont bother with any of the powders, get a cage, my boxer was a right twat, come to think of it the one before that was too, nice bed in a cage with a blanket over the top sorted him out, and lots of praise when you let him out for being a good boy!

Water pistols dont work, thats just a game to them.

Weimaraners are notoriously difficult to train.

I had one that my ex spontaneously bought when I had a 6 month old to look after. That dog damn near gave me a nervous breakdown!

She was beautiful but a real handful.

Definitely exercise for at least a couple of hours a day, and call in professional dog training help.

He’s now 3 and really settled down but it’s took a lot of work.

Think it's just time really tried everthing with one of mine from the stuff u can spray on wooden furniture to homemade paste of mustard! She just grew out of it eventually! When everything was chewed! Disheartening I know! That said she passed in 2011 and have a skirting board in kitchen with her teeth marks that I now cherish! How long is he/she alone? If its not to long then maybe a crate till out of the habit? X

Various online articles say they need a minimum of 2 hours exercise every day, and thats in addition to play time and mental stimulation mentioned above.

You may just have to up your walk lengths for starters and get him space to run

Separation anxiety and boredom

Get in touch with a dog trainer with a good reputation as it’s the owners who are educated really

It may be you need to cage the dog d we much is unfair or kennel him outside whilst the house is empty

He’s not left for more than 2hrs, I fully understand the separation anxiety, but I’ll become a prisoner at this rate. It’s difficult finding a suitable cage as he’s a big fella for a puppy
