"You mean in a 'Leap out if the taxi run around and open the door while she sits there waiting' kind of way? X " I have only ever had one experience similar to that and I found it very endearing indeed.

" I see it as politeness and good manners,I will also hold a door open for someone,I don't see it as anything to do with sexism I don't hang around doors waiting for a man to come and open it for me Why do some people think that something that is only good manners an insult to their sexuality?

I can only speak for my friend but her reasoning was she doesnt want to be percieved as being the weaker sex, and men that do things like that are sexist.

"You mean in a 'Leap out if the taxi run around and open the door while she sits there waiting' kind of way? X Yeah if you like." Not sexist. But daft. I can get out of a car quite easily on my own. Haha. Opening doors to shops etc is just courteous. I hold the door open for people all the time. Wouldn't expect a bloke to jump ahead just to open it for me.. But I wouldn't think it was sexist if he did x

" What would she say if a bloke let the door go in her face then? I am all for equal rights but when women moan about common courtesy then they really become their own worst enemies. Just smile and say thank you. Its not difficult!

"Definitely not but neither do i think its sexist for a man to open a door for another man, a woman to open a door for another woman or a woman to open a door for a man with a baby in a pram. What it is in my book is being courteous and frankly there is too little of it in today's society."

"It is bonkers to think of courtesy in sexist terms. Expectations that men should go ahead and open the door for you is just as sexist. However, I do find this confusion about modern manners can now mean that I am struggling with bags and boxes and men will walk past and not help me to open the door." Tbh i think some guys have fallen foul of a woman who take exception to be assisted, and confuse good manners with being insulted.

"for men to open doors for women?" Only if they do it exclusively for women. I just think it is good manners to hold doors open for people. Particularly if they are struggling with something - packages, bags, buggies, etc.

"for men to open doors for women?" No. It might be seen as a bit old-fashioned, but men and women of a certain age do it and appreciate it. Ok, so I might well be of that certain age, but I see it as part of my respect for a woman.

"I will open the door for anyone regardless of age, gender or colour, what does annoy me tho is if they don't have the decency to acknowledge you have done it, just like giving way to other drivers, who don't thank you lol" And they walk through it without holding the door open as if its your job.

"While leaving a shop one day i opened the door and stepped back to let a women in shop...she looked at me and said I can open my own doors....i was just gobsmacked" That is probably what she would have got in reply - gobsmacked Surely it is just polite? Man or Woman.
